This year’s NORML CON was held down in Berkeley, California. An Oregon glassblower had donated a stash of pipes for the conference, but hadn’t sent the last batch. Rather than have them mailed to Washington DC, only to be packed up and flown to Berkeley, seemed unnecessary, since I would be traveling south to Berkeley from Portland and stopping off in Bend, Oregon, only added seven miles (and 90 minutes) to my trip.
Along the way, I had a silly thought. I got to thinking about musician and sports stars who get sponsored by equipment makers – you know, like “Eric Clapton is sponsored by Fender guitars” or “Tiger Woods only uses Nike clubs”. I thought, “How cool would it be as a professional pothead if I could get an equipment sponsorship from a glassblower?” It could be like those music and sports endorsements where the company gives the artist/athlete free equipment and in exchange the artist/athlete advertises and recommends the equipment.
I’m beginning to learn there are no silly thoughts in the cannabis community. The artist behind Starfish Designs, Andy, was vending at the Oregon Medical Cannabis Awards and I ran the idea past him. He loved it, and now I am (as far as I know) the first professionally sponsored pothead in America.
So if you’re looking for high-quality, hand-blown, artistic borosilicate glass designs, and you’re not in Indiana, Pennsylvania, Idaho, or any other jurisdiction that would indict someone selling glass, call Andy at Starfish Designs at 541-788-GLAS. Tell him “Radical” Russ sent you and he’ll give you a special deal this month on my favorite pipe, the 16″ long-stemmed “Original Gandolf”.
(I can’t believe this life I lead sometimes…)

I just got off the phone with Starfish Designs and they only sell to retailers. They do not sell single pieces directly.
You can see one of the Original Gandolf’s in my hands here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y_JZDiNnEmg
Hey Russ,
Could we get a photo of that sweet pipe you got there?
Thanks!

I hope Santa’s reading this, I need a “Belville Bong” Santa, I have been a good boy! L.O.L
Strangely enough, I’ve never grown cannabis. I intend to someday when I own my own home. In the meantime, I do have an exclusive grower, but that’s all part and parcel of the Oregon Medical Marijuana Program — we actually designate our growers by law!
I for one am jealous Russ! Whats next a hyper strain of Belville buds?
