From the Department of Horn Self-Tooting, I bring you visitor and download statistics for the NORML Daily Audio Stash. The election, particularly Question 2, brought us a ton of traffic (thanks also to Comedy Central’s Indecision 2008 blog, which linked to us regarding marijuana initiatives).
First, the Stash downloads and visits from the first two years, June 2006 to May 2008 (“downloads” is people downloading the MP3 of the Stash via iTunes or other podcast downloader, “visits” is people playing the MP3 from an embedded player on our site or their own). A couple of months spiked between 3-5 thousand hits, but generally an average around 1.5 thousand hits through 2007.
Starting in 2008, Stash hits steadily climbed over the 3 thousand and 4 thousand range. But the real jolt comes toward the end of 2008.
With the thrilling election season and so many marijuana initiatives on the ballot all across America, by September we were experiencing over 10,000 hits, and in October, links and Google searches on election issues pushed our hits to nearly 110,000 and our visitors over 60,000!
On November 5, we got the highest amount of blog traffic (not podcast – the wordy stuff) to date with over 12,000 visitors checking the results of the marijuana initiatives across the country. From August-November, we’re on pace to average about 35,000 visitors per day month.
Thank you all for making the NORML Daily Audio Stash one of the most popular marijuana-related blogs and podcasts on the internet!
