Vancouver, WA. – A Southwest Washington psychology professor has received federal stimulus money to study marijuana and pain management.
WSU Vancouver Professor Michael Morgan qualified to receive $148,438 for his two-year study, which aims to determine whether the use of marijuana along with other anti-pain medications such as morphine provides better pain relief than either drug alone. The grant from the National Institutes of Health is part of the federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, the economic stimulus package enacted by Congress and signed by the president in February.
“This research is innovative in the field,” Morgan said in a news release. “Currently there are no other projects that are studying this chemical relationship using these parameters.”
His project was picked because of “its potential to stimulate the economy and create or retain jobs within the community” as well as its likelihood of making scientific progress in two years, school officials said in a news release.
[You know, the NIH could just give me $148,438 to tell them, "Yes, cannabis helps other painkillers work better." I've heard it a thousand times from pain patients and I've seen other studies that have already confirmed this. -- "R"R]

You got to be kidding me. Using cannabis with other prescription drugs is considered an acceptable economic stimulate but cannabis use alone is not ? WHF. Thats big Pharma.
When was the last time that there was a Federally Funded – Legitimate – Scientific study on any medicinal use of Cannabis? As opposed to a federally funded study on the harmful effects of marijuana. Am I the only one who is excited about this?
WOW, I thought they knew this, isnt there drug makers that have this or are doing this already? I thought this was a given, that everyone knew this.
Anyhow Im all the proof anyone needs, I have a Morphine Pain pump implant, I get direct flow of medicine, in my case Dulatin, 24/7 into my spine. With marijuana I can lower my amount by at least half withiout any pain at all, no spasms or cramps to boot. Without Marijuana Im at double levels of Dulatin and still have issues with pain, cramps and spasms!
At the level of Dulatin I need to function without Marijuana it will shorten my life by 15 years at least. But with marijuana I can live a normal life with less pain, less pain meds and with less harm to my health and lifestyle!
So give me all that cash and Ill write a study of my 10 years using marijuana to help lower the amount of pain meds!
