Study: regular cannabis smoking may inhibit male orgasm

(New Scientist) Stoners may be trading sexual highs for the chemical kind. Males who smoke marijuana daily are four times more likely to have trouble reaching orgasm than men who don’t inhale, finds a new study of 8,656 Aussies.
Other smokers had the opposite problem, experiencing premature ejaculation at nearly three times the rate of non-smokers, find a team led by Marian Pitts at La Trobe University in Melbourne.
Now there’s a new reefer madness scare for you! Smoke too much pot and you’ll either orgasm too quickly or not at all! Sounds to me like more research needs to be done in this area to determine exactly how much pot a man needs to smoke and how often in order to orgasm at precisely the right time. Bring me the Deal or No Deal models, a pound of White Russian sinsemilla, and a notebook and let’s get to the science!
Somebody in the photo department found the perfect picture for this story. (Image: Lindsey T/ theogeo)
Even though many male smokers experienced sexual problems, they reported more partners than non-smokers. Marijuana users were twice as likely to have had two or more sex partners in the previous year than men who didn’t smoke pot.
So, then, smoking pot is going to help you attract the ladies, but once you get them to have sex with you, you’re going to have troubles in the bedroom. How does that work? Wouldn’t the ladies eventually make the connection that most of their pothead lovers are lousy in bed?
Pitts’ team found an even stronger trend for increased sexual activity among female smokers, who were also seven times more likely to have been diagnosed with a sexually transmitted infection in the last year than non-smokers. However, female smokers had no more problems in the bedroom than abstainers, Pitts’ team found.
And if you do get one of those pot-smoking ladies to jump in bed with you, you’re going to get a disease.
[A] 2007 study led by Marie Eloi-Stiven at Weill Medical College of Cornell University in New York found that marijuana users were far more likely than others to take sildenafil (Viagra) recreationally. This is presumably to counteract the perceived libido-sapping effects of marijuana, her team concluded.
Or, presumably, because men who enjoy enhancing the big head with pot might also like to enhance the little head with Viagra.
Once again, it seems like more reefer madness propaganda to scare men into thinking that smoking marijuana will ruin their sex lives. It used to be that marijuana was going to affect fertility, damage chromosomes, and unravel your DNA. Dr. Mitch Earleywine and I will discuss this in Cannabis Science tomorrow.

I don’t normally kiss & tell, but I have to wonder what you guy’s have been smoking; I’ve been burning the soft wood’s for 44 years and it’s alway’s been an aphrodisiac for me. I can make love all day long, just give me water and sweet bud’s!!!
Weed and sex… yes! As for the blue pill, well, you don’t have to need it to love it, but I have been told that weed and the blue pill are, possibly, a deadly combination, or so I’ve read.
Hi, Russ! Just a thought, but since orgasms are 90 mental and only 10 physical (atleast so the saying goes), wouldn’t the effect of cannabis be very individualized? It would seem to depend on where your head is at (heh!) during sex!
As we all know, a buzz is dependent on many factors such as mood before partaking, environment, THC/CBD ratio, other meds/intoxicants, etc…
From personal experience I will say I’ve experienced both early and delayed ejaculation while stoned, but to no more ill effect than an experienced lover can recover from.
I’m looking forward to Dr. Earleywine’s take on this.
P.S. Great find on the photo! And I’d also like to signup for the research project you proposed!
Oh yeah, btw, if we’re going to talk about sexual side effects, let’s bring big pharma into the conversation. Most antidepressants and a LOT of other meds have serious negative effects on the quality of your sex life. Again from personal experience, consider Prozac. I had the misfortune of being on that particular past favorite of the psychiatric set for over a year. Heck, I had trouble achieving orgasm while masturbating on that crap! (Yup, we all masturbate, but few of us openly admit it. Kinda like something else a lot of people don’t admit to doing. You know … gettin’ stoned!)
hmmm..please ask the good doctor how the baby boomers are here if this is true. i believe the saying was “SEX,DRUGS,ROCKNROLL”. Come on we all know this is false but we HAVE to stop lies like this from reaching the public!!!!!!!!
It may be that the numbers aren’t lies, but the interpretation of them is. For example, maybe there is a correlation between guys who can’t come and heavy weed smoking, but maybe that’s because the guys with that problem smoke a lot of weed because of that problem, not the other way around.
I’d also keep in mind this is a telephone survey of Australian men, so imagine how many Aussies would admit to both marijuana usage and a limp noodle to a stranger on the telephone?
I may not be as good as I once was but I’m as good once as I ever was.
My doctor told me today that my “T” level is “off the charts”. No bragging just I have smoked for over 40 years! Don’t need the little blue pills to satisfy my lady either.
And, pot make ya come better.
Nuff said.
24/7 smoker here, and my girlfriend and I have sex 998378183743.284376 times a day, and we seem to have more sex and have more fun with it than anyone else on the planet… with orgasms usually occuring on both sides. Im serious. I even have a daughter to prove it!
But this study is ridiculous. Sex on weed is awesome.
