SUBJECT: Judiciary To Vote THIS WEEK On Decriminalizing Marijuana
As we wrote you last week, members of the Joint Committee on Judiciary heard testimony on Tuesday, March 24, in favor of Senate Bill 349, an act to reclassify the possession of minor amounts of marijuana from a misdemeanor to an infraction.
Representatives from the Connecticut Chapter of NORML testified in favor of the bill. You watch a video of their testimony here.

You can read a recent editorial endorsing this proposal here.
It is anticipated that the Committee will vote on SB 349 this week, and may take action as early as today!
Under state law, the first-time possession of small amounts of marijuana is punishable by up to one year in jail and a $1000 fine. Senate Bill 349 would amend Connecticut law so that adults who possess one ounce of marijuana or less will be issued tickets and assessed a nominal fine in lieu of criminal charges.
Please take a moment today to contact your elected officials and urge them to support SB 349. You can also contact the Judiciary Committee here or leave a message at: 860-240-0530. For your convenience, a pre-written letter will be e-mailed to your state representative and senator when you go here.
Representatives from NORML Connecticut will be meeting at the State House this week in anticipation of the Judiciary Committee’s vote. For more information, please contact them at: http://www.normlct.org/.
Thank you for supporting NORML’s marijuana law reform efforts in Connecticut.
