Republican Ron Paul is once again seeking to allow for the commercial farming of industrial hemp.
House Bill 1866, The Industrial Hemp Farming Act of 2010, would exclude low potency varieties of marijuana from federal prohibition. If approved, this measure will grant state legislatures the authority to license and regulate the commercial production of hemp as an industrial and agricultural commodity.
Several states — including North Dakota, Montana, and Vermont– have enacted regulations to allow for the cultivation of hemp under state law. However, none of these laws can be implemented without federal approval. Passage of HR 1866 would remove existing federal barriers and allow states that wish to regulate commercial hemp production the authority to do so.
In a statement delivered on May 9 to the House of Representatives, Rep. Paul said: “I first introduced the Industrial Hemp Farming Act (HR 1866) five years ago to end the federal government’s ban on American farmers growing industrial hemp. In this time, the industrial hemp industry has grown much larger. Despite its American history, industrial hemp is the only crop that we can buy and sell but not farm in the United States. The federal government should change the law to allow American farmers grow this profitable crop as American farmers have through most of our nation’s history. Please cosponsor the Industrial Hemp Farming Act and join me in celebrating Hemp History Week.”
According to a 2005 Congressional Resource Service report, the United States is the only developed nation that fails to cultivate industrial hemp as an economic crop. As a result, U.S. companies that specialize in hempen goods — such as Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soaps, Patagonia, Nature’s Path, and Nutiva — have no choice but to import hemp material. These added production costs are then passed on to the consumer who must pay artificially high retail prices for hemp products.
Previous versions of The Industrial Hemp Farming Act were introduced, but failed to receive a public hearing or a committee vote. Please write your members of Congress today and tell them to end the federal prohibition of industrial hemp production. For your convenience, a prewritten letter will be e-mailed to your member of Congress when you enter your contact information below.

RON PAUL 2012!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
thank Christ for people like Ron Paul — a true Statesmen (to a degree; much greater than most of our current leaders though). it IS happening right now; Christ willing things will change before our eyes.
but i only pose one more question: what about the International Treaties that have been Ratified by our Senate? are we truly going to be able to de-illegalize cannabis cultivation?
because once an international treaty is ratified by our government it becomes the new Law of the Land and supersedes OVER OUR Constitution! and the only way to exit such treaties, is whether or not the other parties (the other countries/states) on the treaty allow such. so basically “legalization” must be in complete agreement with all the rest of the parties, OR “marijuana” (which is actually a mexican tobacco) is still “illegal”; and if most other parties do not agree to such then are we to take more “drastic” measures to “exit” the treaty?
so basically, what about our international treaties?
Ron Paul is me hero, and Rand Paul is his political legacy. Forgot about Mitch dude, he is a lost cause. Go out and support Rand!!! Just do whatever you can, from just talking to a few people and trying to make sure they vote for him, or make some flyers or a sign or something and put it or them somewhere which may catch the publics eye. Liberty all the way!!! ^_^
Tax & Regulate 2010 (California!!)
Ron Paul 2012 (For President America!!)
This is the same bill that I have written to My senator about for three years now. Mitch McConnell oh boy yues the Senate minority leader from KY yes the man himself. All I have got on this bill from him is a simple form letter stating that, Growing Hemp would make it harder for cops to do their jobs, by creating criminal activity surrounding the growing of hemp, that criminals will steal the hemp and sell the drugs. Also that hemp would send the wrong message to kids, that marijuana is a good thing, it ok, and here in KY we grow it.
I hate this man I truly do, needless to say i have written him back debunking his claims, letting him know ignorance isnt an excuse for stupidity, that he needed to research a bit more and that if our cops cant tell the difference in marijuana and hemp they shouldnt be able to drive, let alone arrest people, carry a gun and protect anyone! Oh you should here the BS about legalizing and medical marijuana he spouts, even worse!
What a joke, this is the same guy that is pulling all the strings in the republican party right now and even his soon to be counterpart in the senate from KY Republican Rand Paul, Ron Paul’s Son is running for KY’s second seat this Nov. he has said the country would be better without people like Mitch McConnell in office. I agree, but I just sent off another letter to Mitchy-boy and provided him with links and reading material for him prior to his response, we shall see what he write me back this time, I cant wait.
