The Associated Press: SWAT team kills 2 dogs in raid on Md. mayor’s home
BERWYN HEIGHTS, Md. — A SWAT team raided the home of a Washington, D.C.-area mayor, killing his two black Labrador retrievers and seizing an unopened package of marijuana delivered there.Prince George’s County Police said Berwyn Heights Mayor Cheye Calvo brought a 32-pound package of marijuana into his home that had been delivered by officers posing as delivery men. The Tuesday evening raid was conducted by county police narcotics officers and a sheriff’s office SWAT Team.
Sheriff’s office spokesman Sgt. Mario Ellis says deputies “apparently felt threatened” when they shot the dogs.
Calvo said officers entered about 7:30 p.m., first shooting 7-year-old Payton. They then pursued 4-year-old Chase, who ran away and was shot by police from behind, he said.
It takes a special kind of man to shoot a fleeing dog in the back. Especially a black lab. Everybody knows what a vicious reputation that breed has… if you’re a duck. The worst thing that dog would probably have ever done to a decent human being not participating in a SWAT raid is lick him to death.
Obviously the first shot at the older dog made such a noise that the second dog was scared off. Could you have not just fired a warning shot to scare both the dogs off?
Not surprising at all that the officers set this up.. They sat and waited outside of a mayor’s house while an officer out of uniform dropped off a package of marijuana.. Of course damn near anyone that doesn’t want to look stupid would grab their mail and bring it in to look at.. So if he or she would of opened it he or she would of gotten in more trouble? Are we not supposed to open our mail? Of course we are allowed to open our mail but the officers blatantly abused their powers here.. Knowing that almost everyone brings mail in the house means that they knew as soon as he accepted the package and brought it in his home that they could bust him or her for accepting it just like they would for a stash house.. Snake games they are playing running right along the line of right and wrong jumping back and forth across it when most convenient. Pitiful.. By the way i did a report on the American pitbull terrier and pitbulls don’t have locking jaws and actually look online for the factual bite records for the breeds.. Labradors do bite more people but so do a lot of smaller dogs. Maybe its just because of how much danger is possible from a bigger dog. Doesn’t give an excuse to give n e one the ability to crash in someones house and kill their animals.. Should we even have an agency that can do this shit? Sad when the terrorist are the law enforcement agents with big guns that following dumb ass outdated rules.
This is soo sad. I have two dogs, and would be soo heart broken if they were shot by cops over something as trivial as pot. Cops love to shoot animals. Its sad

These cops are sorry-ass excuses for law officers. Sadly, this is common behavior cops nowdays. Shoot, ask questions later. A multi-million dollar law suit won’t bring their beloved dogs back but might give these dumb asses cause to think next time.
It is distressing that our nation has become so facist (we’ve fought wars against these types of good-for-nothing criminals in the past).
How sick a country do we live in that police officers are not trained to distinguish the difference between labrador retreivers and pit bulls. Very few news stories have ever disturbed me as much as this one. The fabric of our society is threatened by those who are supposed to defend it. Any person who would do any harm to the most loving dog ever created by God…….you fill in the rest!!
These people thought of these dogs as their children. It’s pretty much the same as them busting down the door and planting a few bullets in an infant playing with pots and pans on the floor. Afterwards, they would say they were threatened by the toddler, who was about to beat them down with a frying pan.
What kind of world do we live in where people can shoot another’s companion to death and not even offer an apology.
This is HORRIBLE!!! Why would any shoot a dog to begin with much less one that is fleeing.
Wow…this SWAT officer deserves to be commited or killed for participating in a raid, shooting harmless black labs, and being a future danger with such violent tendencies. One more reason prohibition is bad, and by extension the US is bad. This is criminal! Plus there was a girl killed after being coerced into a sting op. There was also a bot who was arrested for a joint and they didn’t give him proper medical care, so he died. So, so wrong.
