And no, this is not an April Fool’s joke…

(MSNBC) Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong, the pot-smoking comedy duo of the 1970s and ’80s, will be paid homage with an eponymous sneaker due out April 20, the unofficial international holiday for marijuana tokers.

The skateboarding shoe, officially called the Nike SB Dunk High 420 Cheech & Chong, will feature a red heel panel, an icy translucent outsole and “marijuana-green” laces, according to the website sneakerobsession.com. Only 1,000 pairs will be made.

The left sneaker represents Chong with graphics resembling his signature red bandana, while the right sneaker honors Cheech, with a graphic representing his signature red skullcap, wrote Joseph Karlovich, owner and editor of sneakerobsession, a website that covers the sneaker subculture.

In addition to the features described in the MSNBC story, SneakerObsession gives us details on the top layer that scuffs away to reveal a layer of green:

There’s been rumors floating around that the sneakers would feature a tearaway concept where a top-layer is torn or scuffed away to reveal a second, hidden layer. This photo confirms those rumors. As you can see, a top-layer in white, which is possibly canvas or hemp, shreds away to reveal a long-haired green suede.

There’s also a “smoked-out insole”.

Nike’s World Headquarters is just nine miles away from RoLLaJaY Studios; I used to teach computer classes there for new employees on occassion. We’ll see if we can get on the inside at Nike and maybe score a pair of Cheech & Chong shoes.

I do believe this makes Cheech, 64, and Chong, 72, the oldest persons to be honored with a Nike shoe. Take that, Michael Jordan!

Our guest for the first hour is Ryan Tracy, who founded CheechandChong.com in 1998. Ryan has recently been embroiled in a battle over the website with Live Nation as they are now sponsoring the Cheech & Chong: Get It Legal tour, and he’ll talk about his side of the story from the perspective of a longtime loyal fan. We’ll also talk about his new site, CheechandChongFans.com.

In our second hour, we visit with the co-author of Pot Culture: the A-to-Z Guide to Stoner Language and Life, Steve Bloom, and his work on the entertainment news site, CelebStoner.com. Steve will also preview is upcoming book on stoner movies and discuss PayPal dropping his site, California NORML, and others for accepting advertisement from legal medical marijuana businesses.

We’ve also got new specials for holiday advertisers on the live show (10,000 downloads a month), our daily podcasts (50,000 downloads a month), and the Stash blog (100,000 hits per month). You can focus your advertising dollars on a very specific, well-educated niche of marijuana supporters who are very loyal to brands that support NORML. Email us at stash@norml.org for details.

If we really want to keep our children from using marijuana, we need to write and ask our legislators to support a system that would tax and regulate marijuana similar to the way alcohol and tobacco is taxed and regulated. If marijuana were regulated it would only be sold by merchants who check IDs, something the dealer on the corner will not do. In the system as it is under these present prohibition laws dealers don’t check for ID, and will sell to anyone with the right amount of cash, including our children. 85% of children, since polling began in 1976, will tell you that it is much easier for them to purchase marijuana than it is alcohol because alcohol is regulated in a manner that makes it more difficult for them to purchase.

No legalization = No regulation = No control.

(CheechandChongTour.com) Cheech & Chong: Get It Legal is the follow-up to their hugely successful reunion tour, Cheech & Chong: Light Up America, where they performed together for the first time in over 25 years. The pop culture duo performed for more than 100 audiences and quickly became one of the most sought after shows of 2008-2009. Additionally, their performance in San Antonio, Texas was filmed by the Weinstein Company and will be released as Cheech and Chong’s: Hey Watch This on 4/20 of next year.

“We had an amazing time last year reconnecting with each other and our fans in a way that felt like it was part of our DNA, we were meant to be together,” said Cheech Marin. “In 2010 we are looking forward to doing more classic material that people haven’t seen for years and years, performing more of our songs and introducing some new bits. We’ve had material brewing separately for the past 25 years,” said Tommy Chong.

The Cheech & Chong: Get It Legal tour is scheduled to make 17 stops across North America including Boulder, Indianapolis, Baltimore, Bellingham, Portland, Santa Barbara, Tampa, Minneapolis, Rockford, Detroit, Louisville, DC, Bakersfield, Phoenix, and Fort Worth with Canadian stops in Regina, and Saskatoon. Additional dates to be announced soon. Chong’s wife and comedy partner, Shelby Chong, will open all dates on the tour as well as DJ-Joey Mojo. Fan club members will have access to presale tickets beginning November 17th at CheechandChongTour.com.
