The film follows disenchanted medical student, Peter (Jeremy Strong), as he spends a summer lost within the confines of a marijuana commune hidden deep in the backwoods of Northern California. via DVD Review: Humboldt County – LAist: Los Angeles News, Food, Arts & Events.

Darren and Danny joined us as interview guests in the Sep 26, 2008 Stash. I really loved this movie and my wife watched it for the first time last week and loved it, too. This is not a “crazy dope comedy”, so if you’re looking for that, go rent Pineapple Express or Harold & Kumar. This is a movie that explores the essence of the cannabis community as Peter exits “Babylon” and experiences the interaction of the Humboldt family – “fish out of water” tale. This film features some of the most realistic depictions of pot farmer characters I’ve seen in a long time.

And besides, it’s got that lady from Six Feet Under (Frances Conroy) and the doctor from Deadwood (Brad Dourif), two of my all-time favorite HBO shows, so you know the acting is good.

A little bit late posting tonight – I’m heavily involved in my other show (The Russ Belville Show) since this was a huge political week with bailouts and tonight’s first presidential debate. Join me tomorrow afternoon, 3pm-5pm Eastern, on XM Satellite channel 167.

Today is a treat because you get two interviews I’ve been holding onto for a while to go with our usual Friday fare. First we start with our Entertainment report with Steve Bloom from CelebStoner.com. Steve’s gives us his take on last weekend’s Boston Freedom Rally and a preview of his Pot Culture panel at NORML CON 2008.

Then our musical break features an interview with Sen Dog of Cypress Hill, who tells us how he became a rap superstar and how to keep fighting through adversity to get what you want.

Finally, Danny Jacobs and Darren Grodsky join us to discuss tonight’s premiere of their new movie, “Humboldt County”, a story of a young medical student who re-examines his life when he finds himself trapped in Humboldt County with a family of pot farmers. Danny and Darren wrote and directed this excellent film and it premieres on the West Coast, Austin, and New York tonight.
