Music: Josh Belville – “The Chrimmis Time Blues”

    Monday, December 1st, 2008 at 4:20 pm | By: Less-Than-Radical Josh

    it's me!

Welcome back, Stashers!  I hope your Thanksgiving was chocked full of turkey, or tofurkey if you’re a vegan, or turbaconducken if you’re aiming for clogged arteries and an early death, and lots of, um … sacraments, let’s call them.

Oh, who am I kidding?  I hope you smoked yourself silly!

Who is that handsome redheaded man to the left, you ask?  Why, that’s me!  Now, I promise the Stash will never become a venue through which I will self-promote.  It is, and will always be, a showcase for artists across the country.

That being said, after hearing Chief Greenbud’s tune on the Stash last Wednesday, it made me realize that I wrote a holiday themed song about three years ago called “The Chrimmis Time Blues.”  It’s a silly song that’s somewhat pot-related, for a silly EP called Chrimmis Time! and has sat in the vault that is my computer’s hard drive ever since I wrote it.

And since it’s Monday and Monday = bluesday, I thought I’d play the song for you.  It’s nowhere near the caliber of Mr. Greenbud or any of the other music I’ve featured here, but it’s cute and funny and I think it will start off the holiday season (whatever that may be for you!) nicely.

Oh, and here’s the MP3 if you wish to download it!  The Chrimmis Time Blues

If you’d like to hear more of my music, you can head to my myspace page or to my website.  Now, enough self-promotion!  :)

Music: The Snake The Cross The Crown – “The Great American Smokeout”

    Thursday, November 13th, 2008 at 4:20 pm | By: Less-Than-Radical Josh

“Transamerican” americana/folk band The Snake The Cross The Crown may have an obviously Biblical band name, but they sound nothing like Amy Grant or, uh … okay, I don’t know any other Christian band names.  I don’t even know if they are a Christian band.  They might be one of those “new Christian” type bands like MewithoutYou (and I guess, Pedro the Lion), who aren’t afraid to be Christian and write songs about Jesus, but aren’t as “in-your-face” as bands like, well, Amy Grant.  Or the other one.  You know the one I’m talking about.

Either way, if they are a Christian band, then they apparently understand the deep connection between spiritualism and getting high.  Their song, “The Great American Smokeout,” is a lovely little americana song about people who are struggling to get by, and with lyrics like, “She is thinking of her son’s demise/On his epitaph a doctor’s bill”, I immediately see images of poor, struggling cancer patients trying to pay for expensive medication when all they need is a little weed.

I guess what we really need is a Great American Smokeout!

For more information on The Snake The Cross The Crown, you can visit their myspace page or their website.  You should also definitely check out their Daytrotter session, and download their MP3s there.  Daytrotter is a great website for new, “indie” artists.

And if you are a musician or a band who wants to be featured on the Stash, just send your music to normlsafemusic@gmail.com.  I listen to every single MP3 that is sent to me, and so far it’s all been excellent, so keep them coming!

Music: Ass – “And Pass it to Each Other”

Tuesday, July 1st, 2008 at 3:21 pm | By: Cannabis Karri

My Get Up And Go Just Got Up And Went

Good day fellow Stashers! Today we get to play in some beautiful folk-genre-music with ASS – yes a funny name for a talented Swede. His musical name is really an acronym for Andreas Soderstrom Solo. Mr. Soderstrom has worked with different artists and must have a great sense of humor. Today’s cut, “And Pass it to Each Other” is from the album “My Get Up and Go Just Got Up and Went” which is a collection of acoustic guitar solos. This beautiful acoustic music is just what I needed when I realized it is only Tuesday, and Friday seems a bit far. So, Mellow out with me, Stashers as I pass this on to you, and as we all pass it to each other!

Molly is a radio announcer at 860am KNUJ. Most of thier music is uplifting and most of it is laced with comedy. When not making beautiful music together, they can be found hitting the road on their Harley. Get to know Molly and Sonny Boy at their website MollyandSonnyboy.com.

Music: Celtic Tribe – “Pipe of Inspiration”

Monday, March 17th, 2008 at 4:21 pm | By: Cannabis Karri

    Celtic Tribe

Top O’ the day to ya! This is Cannabis O’Karri here wishing you a very green St. Patty’s Day! Today, usually blue Monday, I was feelin’ a wee bit of green instead, so here is some Irish music by the band, CELTIC TRIBE. These Irish rovers aim to inspire and enlighten, and that they do with today’s musical pint “Pipe of Inspiration”. The lads founded the band 1991 and they play all over the north of Ireland . So leave the Guinness at home, and pick up a pipe of inspiration of your own, or as they say in the homeland “roll a bifter” to celebrate this green holiday. Have a safe and fun holiday!

Music: Mark Gothard – “If Thomas Jefferson Were Here”

Wednesday, March 12th, 2008 at 4:21 pm | By: Cannabis Karri

Mark GothardToday on the Stash we look to a singer-songwriter for our midweek hit. I found the perfect guy-with-a-guitar kind of music. MARK GOTHARD has a unique voice like other greats of this genre, (think Tom Waits, Neil Young), his guitar style is engaging and warm, and like all good folkster artists he has something to say. Today’s track “If Thomas Jefferson Were Here” is a reflection on the state of our government. In our struggle to end prohibition we can get inspiration from the Jefferson quote “The will of the people is the only legitimate foundation of any government”. If you like Mark’s style, please visit his website at markgothard.com where you can find much more of his music for free!

    Music: Sly Joe – “High”

Tuesday, March 11th, 2008 at 4:21 pm | By: Cannabis Karri

Sly JoeSo early in the week and already I need a vacation! Follow me to a place in the sun with Artist SLY JOE. Take a musical jaunt to sunny places like So Cal and New Mexico, and even a skip through Hawaii with this upbeat, just-what-we- need-on-a-Tuesday, melody. The musical hit today, “High” fills me up like a fresh squeezed lemonade at a dusty summer festival. How could any song that features a ukelele and a kazoo not give you a lift? Even though Sly Joe, who lives in Neenah, Wisconsin, is probably scraping the ice off his windshield today, he has me dreaming of enjoying some Pakalolo with my peeps on Makena beach. Aloha!

Music: Bleeding Hands – “High Times”

Wednesday, February 27th, 2008 at 4:21 pm | By: Cannabis Karri

Andy Bleeding Hands HughsWhat better than an easy-sounding folkster to ease us through a Wednesday? BLEEDING HANDS is the band name of Andy “Bleeding Hands” Hughes. Yep, one guy can a band make if you are this Londoner with a penchant for heart-felt lyrics and an electric guitar. If you enjoy your buzz in a coffee bar watching a singer with a guitar and a mike, then the melancholy “High Times” is your cup-o-joe. I really like the mix of folk with an electric guitar. Even better, I would love to hear this song around a campfire with some friends singing along. Enjoy todays music hit, “High Times” and check out more information about the artist at http://music.podshow.com.
