The Pigskin Potheads, a fantasy football team comprised solely of NFL players who’ve been busted for marijuana (click player’s names for their bust), won their first game of the season by defeating the Green Bud Packers by a score of 92.74 to 81.14.

The Green Bud Packers, consisting of only players from the Super Bowl Champion Green Bay Packers, earned all of their points on the NFL’s opening night game against the Saints on Thursday at Lambeau Field. That real-life game featured Packers’ QB Aaron Rodgers torching New Orleans with three TD passes in the first quarter en route to a 42-34 win and 312 yards passing. Potheads QB Michael Vick (PHI) nearly matched Rodgers’ 25.34 fantasy points, but a lost fumble cost him 2 points, leaving Vick with 23.44 points in Philadelphia’s win over St. Louis.

Click to see player scoring breakdown

The Packers’ receiving corps of Jordy Nelson and Donald Driver combined for 17.8 fantasy points. They were thoroughly outplayed by the Potheads’ Kenny Britt (TEN) who had 28.6 fantasy points on his own. The Potheads’ other starting wide out, Santonio Holmes (NYJ) added another 7 fantasy points. The Potheads failed to start Percy Harvin (MIN) who also surpassed both Green Bud receivers with 18.5 fantasy points.

The Potheads running backs Marshawn Lynch (SEA) and Ricky Williams (BAL) both failed to score touchdowns and combined for a low 12.4 fantasy points on yardage alone. Packers’ running backs Ryan Grant and James Starks combined for 16.2 fantasy points with one rushing TD. But the Potheads’ tight end, Aaron Hernandez (NE), far outplayed Packers’ tight end Jermichael Finley, scoring 17.3 fantasy points with one receiving TD vs. Finley’s 5.3 points.

On the other side of the ball the Packers dominated. On defense, lineman BJ Raji, linebacker Clay Matthews, and defensive back Charles Woodson combined for 10.5 points, while the Potheads’ lineman Jonathan Babineaux (ATL) and defensive back Derrick Martin (NYG) had only 2 points total. Starting linebacker Quan Sturdivant (ARI) did not play and should have been replaced in the lineup by Tom Zbikowski (BAL) who had 5 points. Packers’ kicker Mason Crosby added 6 points (all PATs) vs. the Potheads’ Lawrence Tynes (NYG) 2 points.

The Pigskin Potheads’ 92.74 points was tops in the Viper Football League this week. The Pittsburgh Stoners beat the Kansas City Chiefed by a score of 55.8 to 28.08. These teams, like the Green Bud Packers, are stocked only with players from the Pittsburgh Steelers and Kansas City Chiefs, respectively. The Steelers were last year’s AFC Champions and the Chiefs were an AFC playoff team.

As Portland is still filled with drifted snow and ice packed roads, I offered up to my fellow board members of Oregon NORML the use of my 4×4 Jeep chauffeurring to get around town. They have other holiday shopping to complete and two-wheel drive cars that would get high centered just trying to get on the roads. From 10am to 7pm we drove about town at 15mph (with chains) and it was great to be out of the house and experiencing Arctic Blast 2008 (local news headline winner) with friends.

Then I returned to my DVR to watch the Not-BCS Bowl with my alma mater undefeated Boise State Broncos. Well, previously undefeated. They lost by 1 point. The night after my Packers implode in Chicago. Another Festivus miracle!

I have a new interview with Dr. Earleywine plus a special Cannabis Christmas Music collection for tomorrow’s Stash. But for today, I’m sorry, no Stash – it’s a Festivus for the rest of us!

Thanks to all of you Stashers who have been leaving comments and sending emails during this two-week Stash break. I’m going to have so much audio and video for you from the Dem Convention and Seattle Hempfest, and then the very next weekend is Portland Hempstalk.

GREEN BAY, Wis. — Brett Favre has decided to retire from the NFL after 17 seasons. FOX Sports first reported Tuesday that the Green Bay Packers quarterback informed the team in the last few days. ESPN.com said that according to Favre’s agent the quarterback told coach Mike McCarthy of his decision.

Well, nothing really. I’m just a huge Green Bay Packers fan and this is really bumming me out today. However, I do have some thoughts on what this does have to do with marijuana… click on the link below to read the

See, at one point in his career, Brett Favre had an addiction to painkillers. It’s no surprise, since he is the NFL’s all-time Ironman, playing in 258 consecutive starts. That’s quite a feat, and probably not one that’s acheivable without painkillers at some point. Brett courageously admitted he had a problem and got some treatment. The fans didn’t hold it against him and he’s acheived near mythic status among them.

But would the country have forgiven Brett Favre if he had been popped for failing a marijuana test? Surely, Brett Favre the former pill addict is a national hero. But Brett Favre the pothead would never be given that status.

The list of NFL players who’ve had issues with the NFL for their marijuana use is long. It starts with Ricky Williams, the talented back who played with New Orleans and Miami, and the list includes many more players who have at one time or another been suspended, fined, admonished, or traded for their marijuana use.

These men who put their bodies through the abuse and pounding of the NFL are encouraged to use addictive opioid painkillers all the time. Team doctors are quick to keep the star player out on the field – injuries cost money. But if one of these players should use a non-addictive, non-toxic herb to control pain, they are in violation of the league’s substance abuse policy.

Besides its prohibition, the NFL cites the “what message does it send to the kids” line when justifying the ban on marijuana (they certainly couldn’t cite the “performance enhancement” angle). Well, what message does it send the kids when Dr. Feelgood is allowed to pump our kids’ sports heroes full of dangerous novacaine, lydocaine, what-have-you-caine, but we punish them for making the smart decision to use something safer?
