Music: Tallbrothers - “You Get Me Too High”

Friday, April 11th, 2008

TallbrothersI love to start the weekend with my favorite BC buds, THE TALLBROTHERS. Today we enjoy the wonderful reefer jazz tune “You Get Me Too High”. Actual brothers, Thomas and Bill Small are the core of this legendary Vancouver, BC band. Bill helped launch the British Columbia Compassion Club Society that provides low-cost, high quality organic medicinal marijuana to anyone with a doctor’s prescription. Incredibly, Tom started writing music at the age of 8 and both brothers have a long musical resume. Currently taking their inspiration from 30’s and 40’s reefer tunes gleaned from the archives of Cab Calloway, Ella Fitzgerald, Nat King Cole and others, the Tallbrothers are THE sound of hot jazz in the cannabis community. According to their website, the band’s name comes from an old reefer jazz tune called “Man with the Jive” where a line exclaims “Light up baby and get real tall!” I hope you all have a chance to get real tall this weekend! Please visit their myspace page to sample and download this uber-cool music, or visit 420tunes.ca to purchase their amazing CD.

Music: The Omega Project - “Grow to Eat”

Thursday, April 10th, 2008

Omega Project ArtI Am pleased to bring you THE OMEGA PROJECT and their musical hit “Grow and Eat”. Not just a jam band, but classic rock, R & B, reggae, funk - and I do mean the best of those genres - blended into the perfect festival band - and I do mean festival band - they have played Seattle Hempfest, Amsterdam’s Cannabis Cup and the Kauai Freedom Festival. The perfect community-festival band, they not only know how to jam their asses off, their lyrics prove they have something to say. Enjoy today’s interview with Carlos Cardona who plays guitar and lends his big voice to the band. Patience Ahonui slammin’ on rhythm guitar, bass and vocals and Frank Apra setting the pulse with his energetic percussion round out the Omega Project. Visit their website at Omegaprojectmusic.com to sample and purchase their amazing music and check out tour dates. If the Omega Project is playing anywhere near you, round up your friends and get ready for a party with a purpose. If you are lucky enough to be in Santa Cruz, Cali on 4/20 you can hear them play at the WAMM’S (Wo/Men’s Alliance for Medical Marijuana) 15th birthday party. Lucky indeed!

Music: Pirate Radio - “The Dread Pirate Roberts”

Wednesday, April 9th, 2008

Pirate RadioA really good shot of Reggae is what you get with todays musical hit from the group, PIRATE RADIO. Hailing from Portsmouth, U.K. these reggae masters bring us some classic-sounding reggae dub with their musical hit “The Dread Pirate Roberts”. These reggae rockers must be fans of the movie “the Princess Bride” to name this righteous, rootsy instrumental after the wonderfully mysterious hero. This is the good stuff, sounding like a great 1970’s reggae, funk dance hit. Put this on your next cannabis party mix tape because your mixed tape just isn’t complete without a kick-ass reggae tune to make everything Irie. Another great artist from http://music.podshow.com .

Music: Dallas Leonard - “One Toke”

Tuesday, April 8th, 2008

Dallas LeonardGood Day beautiful stashers! Today we enjoy some great acoustic guitar with DALLAS LEONARD and his musical hit “One Toke”. Dallas is a Midwestern troubadour who has played in various rock bands and now is embracing his inner folkster by writing and performing his acoustic music. Originally from Indy, Dallas relocated to Virginia in 2000. I have a deep love for good acoustic guitar, and Dallas does not disappoint with this toker-friendly tune. You can sample and purchase his music on his myspace page.

Music: Giles - “Mind Your Own Damn Business”

Monday, April 7th, 2008

GilesWelcome to Blue Monday stashers! We have heard from the band GILES before, but we haven’t heard them sing the blues! This tune, “Mind Your Own Damn Business” has a steady rockin’ blues beat with a real Monday- blue-Monday attitude. Giles is a guitar-driven trio from the North-West of England fronted by the talented Mark Koehorst who is originally from Holland. With his son, Piet on bass and Terry Shaughnessy on drums, I am beginning to think that Giles can play any genre and sound like they own it. Maybe I will drop them a line, and ask them to cook up their own version of reggae next. I have no doubt these guys would nail it. How do I conquer Mondays? Well, you guys all know, everyone else can mind their own damn business….

Aaron EnglishWelcome to Friday you beautiful stashers! I have the perfect tune to take us into the weekend. AARON ENGLISH is an artist from Seattle and along with his band, bring us some big sounds reminiscent of Robert Plant, post Zeppelin or Peter Gabriel post Genesis. Today’s tune “Like Smoke” showcases his sophisticated writing style that is amplified by world-beat rhythms, making this Northwest band sound exotic and intoxicating. I can already feel the stress of the work week drift away, like smoke….

Music: Tallbrothers - “I’m Kinda High”

Friday, March 28th, 2008

TallbrothersWhat a delicious treat to take us into the weekend! Our British Columbia buds, THE TALLBROTHERS treat us to some righteous reefer jazz with their musical hit “I’m Kinda High”. Actual brothers, Thomas and Bill Small head this legendary Vancouver, BC band. Bill at one time oversaw a mega real estate business and the stress from that job led to ulcers. When he discovered that marijuana had cured his ulcers, he moved to Vancouver and helped launch the British Columbia Compassion Club Society that initially operated out of his apartment. This organization provides low-cost, high quality organic medicinal marijuana to anyone with a doctor’s prescription. Tom has a long musical history, playing many different instruments in different musical genres and working as an audio engineer. Their retro sound is cool and crisp jazz at its best. After headlining the 2004 Cannabis Cup in Amsterdam, the Tallbrothers gained worldwide popularity in cannabis communities far from their Canadian roots. These guys would kick ass even if they weren’t singing about weed. Please visit their myspace page to sample and download this hip music.

Music: The Den Collective - “Mary Jane I’ve Smoked my Last One”

Thursday, March 27th, 2008

The Den CollectiveWelcome beautiful stashers! Often the difference between a great strain of cannabis and a really great strain of cannabis is a cool name. I fondly remember my first encounter with “Purple Kush” and “Mowie Wowie”. Today’s musical hit from the band, THE DEN COLLECTIVE makes a point of calling out some of today’s more notorious smoke. The hit “Mary Jane, I’ve Smoked my Last One” happily strums it’s way into my heart. The Den Collective is a five member band from the UK that easily slips between electric and acoustic sounds. Add this track to you next cannabis party mix tape. You can learn more about the Den on their web page at purevolume.com.

Music: Ben Base - “I Smoke herbs”

Tuesday, March 25th, 2008

Ben BaseToday on the stash, I have a bit of Electronica for all you techno fans. Like many good trip-hop artists, BEN BASE has created an entire world just for his music. Listing his home planet as “Zorg” and having survived an intergalactic war that destroyed said planet, Ben Base now lives in San Francisco making fierce drum beat rhythms and living as a super-hero. Although light on lyrics, today’s musical hit “I smoke herbs” has a great beat, a smooth rhythm and some nice horns. Too bad Zorg was destroyed, seems like a nice place to produce music. You can visit Ben Base’s world on his own podcast page here, or visit his myspace page.

BaselessWelcome stashers! We are going to the Netherlands for today’s musical hit. Windmills, Rembrandt, tulips, cheese and laws that decriminalize smoking herb, why wouldn’t we want to go there? The band BASELESS is comprised of Jeroen van Bommel on vocals and guitar, Gimon de Graaf on drums, Kiko Nikolov, a Bulgarian guitarist and Marcos Leite, a Brazilian bass player. This mix of influences equals a warm sound, catchy lyrics and Pearl Jam-like riffs. Today’s hit, “Mary Jane” defines the band’s sound and equals a great tune for today’s audio stash. Monday, March 17th, 2008

Celtic Tribe

Top O’ the day to ya! This is Cannabis O’Karri here wishing you a very green St. Patty’s Day! Today, usually blue Monday, I was feelin’ a wee bit of green instead, so here is some Irish music by the band, CELTIC TRIBE. These Irish rovers aim to inspire and enlighten, and that they do with today’s musical pint “Pipe of Inspiration”. The lads founded the band 1991 and they play all over the north of Ireland . So leave the Guinness at home, and pick up a pipe of inspiration of your own, or as they say in the homeland “roll a bifter” to celebrate this green holiday. Have a safe and fun holiday!

Music: The Tentacles - “Ganja Computer”

Friday, March 14th, 2008

The TentaclesWelcome to Friday, you beautiful stashers! Take a long deep puff of today’s track “Ganja Computer” by THE TENTACLES. Hip-hop, trip-hop, psychedelic, what-ever you call todays music it will groove you to your soul and have you humming the lyrics all weekend. With a killer bass line, funky lyrics and a bit of electronica, the Tentacles have me convinced that I do, in fact, have a ganja computer. Well-known in the underground New York music scene, members Sam Crees and Peter Teraberry are artists in every sense of the word. They have an online and traveling art show called MODA (Museum of Drunken Art) filled with all the weird and wonderful art they create and collect. Look them up on their myspace page and make sure you add this track to your next party mix tape.

Music: Mark Gothard - “If Thomas Jefferson Were Here”

Wednesday, March 12th, 2008

Mark GothardToday on the Stash we look to a singer-songwriter for our midweek hit. I found the perfect guy-with-a-guitar kind of music. MARK GOTHARD has a unique voice like other greats of this genre, (think Tom Waits, Neil Young), his guitar style is engaging and warm, and like all good folkster artists he has something to say. Today’s track “If Thomas Jefferson Were Here” is a reflection on the state of our government. In our struggle to end prohibition we can get inspiration from the Jefferson quote “The will of the people is the only legitimate foundation of any government”. If you like Mark’s style, please visit his website at markgothard.com where you can find much more of his music for free!

Music: Sly Joe - “High”

Tuesday, March 11th, 2008

Sly JoeSo early in the week and already I need a vacation! Follow me to a place in the sun with Artist SLY JOE. Take a musical jaunt to sunny places like So Cal and New Mexico, and even a skip through Hawaii with this upbeat, just-what-we- need-on-a-Tuesday, melody. The musical hit today, “High” fills me up like a fresh squeezed lemonade at a dusty summer festival. How could any song that features a ukelele and a kazoo not give you a lift? Even though Sly Joe, who lives in Neenah, Wisconsin, is probably scraping the ice off his windshield today, he has me dreaming of enjoying some Pakalolo with my peeps on Makena beach. Aloha!

Music: P.A.I.N - “Grow More Weed”

Friday, March 7th, 2008

Howard MarksIt’s Friday here on the stash, so take this musical puff from a UK punk rock group that was together from 1995 to 2002. The group P.A.I.N (which stands for Propaganga and Information Network) recorded the song “Grow More Weed” in 2001 with none other than Mr. Nice himself, Howard Marks, who joins lead vocalist Jon Eris on this heavy-dub reggae, ska-influenced tune. Mr. Marks famously spent seven years in an American prison for drug trafficking and later ran for election to UK Parliament on the single issue of the legalize cannabis campaign. He didn’t make Parliament, but he continues to write and campaign vigorously for the legalization of recreational and medical cannabis. Visit his page on the web here, or find out more information about the band P.A.I.N at http://music.podshow.com.
