1st Place - "Saggin' (featuring Potluck)"

I first heard of 1st Place on a radio show called ‘Scratch and Sniff‘.  Its a show where they remix tunes into each other.  Like an AC/DC tune into a Ludacris jam.  And so on.  1st Place is one of the unsigned acts they play and also one of their favorites to throw on too it seems.  Ive dug everything I’ve heard from these guys and last week when I heard this one on the radio I had to get it from the guys.

The song features Potluck, an act many of us are familiar with and dig.  Potluck is signed to the Kottonmouth Kings label Subnoize Records.  As I mentioned before 1st Place has been on a syndicated mixtape show quite a few times and one of the DJ’s of that show, DJ Mike Czech has teamed with 1st Place to release a mix tape.  You can get it on their Myspace.  Just look for “The Great Boombox” mixtape.  It includes the previous tune I’ve played on NORML Show Live from 1st Place “Being Broke Sucks”.  Yes it does.

Some of Humboldt County’s finest with a mix of flavor from Missouri.  Potluck and Tech N9ne join us this week to throw down.  Tech, many of you know has been around for a while and is one of the most successful, if not the most successful underground rap artist ever.  His raps with blinding speed send some peoples heads into a spin, but to others its the perfect mix of smooth and hardcore all in one.  Southern swang is also something else that comes through with Techa Nina added to this song.  Then, add one of the best toke session acts to the party and you have a truly popn song.  Potluck is signed on The Kottonmouth Kings label, Subnoize Records and as their name hints to, they are all about the greens.  Potluck just released their Greatest Hits CD called Greatest Hits with My Buds.  It contains a ton of collaborations on songs including The Kottonmouth Kings, E-40, Hed PE, and even D12.  Pick it up on i-Tunes or any other way really.  No matter where yah get it, yah got it.

And my parents are driving in from Boise!  They’ve come to see my brother, former Stash music director “Less Than Radical” Josh, starring in a play here in Stumptown.  It will be good to see the whole famn damily.  Tonight’s Paul Stanford’s TV show, tomorrow is a cardholder meeting, a play, and Valentine’s Day, Sunday is the Oregon NORML TV show, and then Monday I’m back here.  Whee!

 ’It’s a Rap’ on Friday and we bring you the great duo Potluck, who have soared to the upper echelons of the hip-hop scene with their infectious brand of rhyme. Re-igniting the scene, Potluck released a series of albums, now considered underground classics.

Potluck take the greatest high on earth, marijuana and combine it with production and lyric skill, to create ground breaking music. Combining west coast beats, clever samples, and witty rhymes, Potluck’s weed inspired song topics include everything from loves’ tribulations to neck-snapping battle raps.

The Potluck duo, 1 Ton and UnderRated, met at a DJ trial in 1995. UnderRated remembers “We were the two tightest DJ’s there, so it was natural we hooked up”. Currently, Potluck are about to hit the road for the huge ‘Bring Tha Noize Tour’, featuring The Kottonmouth Kings, beginning 25 February.

Now hitting the stores is Potluck’s highly anticipated new CD “Pipe Dreams” featuring counter-culture icons The Kottonmouth Kings. The group say it’s their “best CD yet, don’t miss it!”. Potluck’s musical chemistry and love of hip-hop shines through the new album, which has lyrical depth, rapid fire flows and head nodding beats.
