Mitt Romney was interviewing with a reporter from Colorado who asked a series of questions, including his opinions on civil unions or marriage equality for gay people, in-state tuition for children of undocumented immigrants, and Colorado’s state recognition of medical marijuana. Frustrated by the questions not leading to his preferred talking points, Gov. Romney, exasperated, asks “Aren’t there issues of significance you’d like to talk about? The economy?…”

“If states want to legalize medical marijuana, I think that’s a state’s right,” Cain said while campaigning in Iowa. “Because one of my overriding approaches to looking at all of these issues — most of them belong at the state, because when you do something federally … you try to force one-size-fits-all.”

He does not see his stand on issues like marijuana legalization as detriments to a potential GOP nominee. “It’s just one in a series of cost-benefits. What are we spending our money on and what are we getting for the money we’re spending. Half of the money we’re spending on the courts and law enforcement and prisons is drug related. And what are we getting for that? Well, we’re arresting 1.8-million people a year in this country, which is just staggering when you considering the population of New Mexico is 1.8-million.”
