Whee, one more week until Halloween!  It’s my favorite holiday / party, unless the Packers are winning a Super Bowl.  This year I will be dressed as General Lehigh, commander of the Allied Forces on the front lines of the Drug War.  Should be fun.

This weekend you get an extra-packed bowl of Stashy goodness.  I’ve got Bobbie Wooten, a paralyzed medical marijuana patient in New Mexico whose landlord is evicting her over her two little marijuana plants.  There’s some extra coal in yer stocking!

Then Steve Bloom joins us to talk about how cool it was to listen to Ray Manzerek at the NORML Conference, talking about smoking a joint with Jim Morrison and writing “Moonlight Ride”.  I can’t wait to post that video from the conference.

Finally, comedian Rob Cantrell joins us to promote the High Times Bobby Black Smoke the Vote benefit for NORML at Don Hill’s in the West Village in New York.

It’s the week leading up to Sunday, April 20th – Cannabis Liberation Day, or as others call it, 4/20. Coming up after the news we have the Reformer’s Calendar to let you know about the special 4/20 events happening this weekend. If you have a special 4/20 event you’d like to promote this week, send me an email at stash ‘at’ norml.org and I’ll plug your event on this week’s Stash podcasts and up on our Stash blog.

One of the events happening at a NORML Chapter near you is the “Roll Your Own Screening” of Doug Benson’s new comedy documentary, Super High Me. We sat down with Doug last week to learn more about the show and how you can help support the end of adult marijuana prohibition by seeing it this weekend.

All this week we’re also promoting the NORML 420 MoneyBomb. This is a fundraising effort by NORML to get as many people as possible to visit 420moneybomb.org on Sunday, April 20th, and join NORML and get a 4/20 sticker for a $4.20 donation to NORML.

For our musical break on this Blues Monday, Cannabis Karri has discovered Jake Lear, a singer/songwriter from Vermont who gives us a thoughtful tune called “Trouble in my Mind, Trouble in my Soul”.

Then we’ll finish up with comedian Rob Cantrell who is hosting his own 420 comedy show along with Marijuanalogues founder, Tony Camin, in Arlington, Virginia.

And remember, if you are a business or non-profit who’d like your message heard on the Daily Audio Stash or the NORML Weekly News, you can advertise with us. We have rates for every budget and a 10% discount for non-profits. You can target your message to the focused audience of enlightened cannabis consumers you’re looking for. With over 28,000 daily downloads and hundreds of thousands of embedded players on websites worldwide, advertising with NORML is the most effective way of reaching your potential customers. Just send us an email at stash ‘at’ norml.org and we’ll have you on the air in no time.

Martin Luther King, Jr.We’d like to pause for a moment in remembrance of this day forty years ago, April 4, 1968, when Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., was assassinated on a hotel balcony in Memphis, Tennessee. Dr. King was a true patriot who stood up for civil rights and famously dreamed of a day when people would be judged not by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.

We cannabis consumers are another minority – an invisible minority – and we regularly have our civil rights trampled upon for our use and appreciation of a plant. Cannabis users are disenfranchised by felony convictions in many states. Cannabis users’ privacy is violated by workplace urine testing. Cannabis users’ families are broken up by social services. Cannabis users are beaten and killed just for being cannabis users.

That’s not to compare the injustice suffered for 350 years by African-Americans whose ancestors were brought over in slave ships to the injustice suffered by a college kid who loses a loan, a blue collar worker who loses a job, or pot smoker who loses their freedom; they aren’t comparable. However, civil rights is not a zero-sum game and we can’t base our rights on perceived degrees of past offense. The right to one’s own mind and body are the ultimate civil right and considering how much the War on Marijuana disproportionately affects communities of color, perhaps it’s time we started thinking of it in a civil rights perspective.

Friday is Cannabis Community day on the Stash, and coming up after the news, we’re speaking with our regular guest Steve Bloom, the webmaster at CelebStoner.com. We’ll be discussing the new documentary on the Rolling Stones and admissions by Keith Richards that he uses marijuana to stay off heroin. We’ve also got an update on Barack Obama’s smoking habits.

Next, Cannabis Karri has unearthed a tune from a Seattle artists named Aaron English. He’s got a great big song called “Like Smoke” that’s a perfect kickoff to the weekend.

We wrap things up today with comedian Rob Cantrell, who you’ll remember from Last Comic Standing, who is joining us to promote a 420 film festival in Arlington, Virginia on April 20th, of course.

Finally, don’t forget that every Saturday we’re now posting the NORML Weekend Music Stash, where you can get all of the last ten songs from our daily musical breaks in one podcast, suitable for your weekend party pleasure. If you have a band that would like to be featured on our podcast, please send us an email at stash ‘at’ norml.org.

So sit back and relax with your favorite strain and enjoy your NORML Daily Audio Stash…
