NBC, CBS, ABC, & FOX happy to profit from marijuana, as long as nobody talks about legalizing it

Monday, August 3rd, 2009 at 8:20 am | By: Radical Russ

Marijuana legalization is the hottest topic in the media these days.  MSNBC, CNBC, CNN, FOX, NatGeo, and CBS News have presented special features on marijuana business, medical marijuana, and the marijuana legalization movement.  Google Trends is showing double the interest in searches and news hits for the term “marijuana legalization”.  Showtime’s hit series Weeds, about a suburban mom turned pot dealer, is entering its fifth season.  Everywhere you look, corporate media are happy to profit from America’s most popular herb.

Unless you want to address marijuana’s illegality and the lives that are shattered by the effects of marijuana prohibition.  In that case, the corporate media cannot have anything to do with you, even if you want to pay to broadcast the message of ending adult marijuana prohibition.

Pics from the Blazed & Confused concert in Portland

Saturday, July 18th, 2009 at 11:05 am | By: Radical Russ
    My skull (actual size)

    My skull (actual size)

Just waking up and downloading pics from my BlackBerry from last night’s Blazed & Confused concert.  I’d be posting my 8-minute video with Miles from Slightly Stoopid here, except my PC and Adobe Premiere Pro keep crashing when I try to edit the hi-def mpeg.  Apple is this close to having a new customer, with this close being the gap between my income and the cost of a kick-ass MacBook and Final Cut Pro.  Let’s just say that Miles appreciated Oregon’s hospitality, courtesy of my man Smoke Dogg.

The pics are grainy, being these are from a cell phone camera in the dark, but I will have plenty more from the other still camera as soon as I go to Smoke Dogg’s place and get the SD card.  And someday, my video.  I also have the Miles interview on my audio recorder and I’ll be adding that to the Stash on Monday.

I will admit, having a pair of media passes on lanyards makes for a fun concert experience.  The Snoop photo above was takes as I stood in front of the subs and inside the crowd-control fence separating the front row from the stage.  Jr. made the rounds and got plenty of backstage photos and fun pics of foxy* girls who became very friendly after we mentioned we’re shooting them for NORML.  My man Brian the Red used his pass to get back by the buses and help Stephen and Damien Marley enjoy a bit of Oregon hospitality.  At the end of the night, I left the two passes with my homies Bobby B (creator of the strain “Sellwood Thunder”) and Pimpin Steve, who I will bet ten bucks managed to find a way to get on Snoop’s tour bus (Bobby’s a blind Vietnam Vet and Pimpin’s his caregiver, and those charming bastards know how to work it.)

    A REAL Slightly Stoopid Fan

    A REAL Slightly Stoopid Fan

Big thanks go out to Madeline Martinez from Oregon NORML for coordinating and the two fantastic Oregon NORML volunteers – Board Member Linda Mason and Brian the Red – for working the table.  We sold posters, buttons, pins, and bud pictures and made over $120 and lots of change in donations in addition to enjoying four great bands for free (see, volunteering for NORML: the pay sucks, but the fringe benefits are awesome!)

Click any of the photos and you can see the rest of them in 1600×1200 size at my personal Picasaweb Photo Gallery (plenty of other photos there, too, and the rest of the concert shots should be up there by the end of the day.)

    *Yes, “foxy”. I’m old school.

NORML coordinating info booths on Snoop Dogg’s “Blazed and Confused” Tour (Updated)

Wednesday, July 15th, 2009 at 9:40 am | By: Radical Russ

UPDATE – New tour dates and updated locations below…

blazedconfusedflyer_optI’ve been working with Chris representing the band Slightly Stoopid on Snoop Dogg’s “Blazed and Confused” Summer Tour. He had asked me to get him a NORML chapter to set up an information booth at the concert in Irvine last Saturday, but had too little notice to get the Orange County chapter down there. I suggested that for the next couple of dates, at Red Rocks in Denver and at the Clark County Amphitheater Portland Coliseum across the river from Portland, I could get him NORML chapters for tabling.

It’s worked out for Denver – the fledgling Mile High NORML will be tabling at Red Rocks tomorrow night (tickets are still available). I’m still waiting to hear about Clark County, especially about my request for a backstage pass and a chance to interview the bands for the Stash. And if things go as planned, I’ll be coordinating NORML chapters for nearly every city on the tour.

So chapters, here are the tour dates. Get me your cell phone immediate contact info and let me know if you need some NORML SWAG for your booth. This is a huge opportunity to reach out to a large, young, already-on-our-side demographic and a chance for your chapter to build its name and sell some gear.

More than 30 arrested on pot, alcohol charges near Snoop Dogg concert

Thursday, May 21st, 2009 at 10:20 am | By: Radical Russ
Snoop Dogg and some bubonic chronic

Snoop Dogg and some bubonic chronic

Snoop Dogg, 37, whose real name is Calvin Broadus Jr., has made no secret of his penchant for pot and alcohol.

He’s made a career out of it.

But members of the Beaufort/Jasper Multi Agency Drug Task Force didn’t target the concert or those attending, sheriff’s Lt. Joey Woodward said Tuesday. Deputies were there after being asked to help with traffic and crowd control, he said.

“People were just lighting up joints in front of our undercover officers,” Woodward said. “We were walking around the area, and we’d see this and usually find a small bag of marijuana in their pockets after we’d arrest them.”

The total amount of how much pot was seized was not available, but Woodward said it would be relatively small.

via islandpacket.com | More than 30 arrested on pot, alcohol charges near Snoop Dogg concert.

Good job, Lt. Woodward!  Thanks to your fine police work, society is saved from at least 30 people who would have been high at a concert.  Who knows what kind of mayhem would erupt if people were stoned while watching Snoop rap about getting stoned?

I don’t know about you, but if I’m parking my car at a Snoop Dogg concert, I’m assuming the police are targeting the venue to catch stoners, no matter how much they say it’s about traffic and crowd control.  Don’t make Lt. Woodward’s job easy!

Snoop is in a big “Pot” hole again!

Thursday, May 14th, 2009 at 2:20 pm | By: Dudemaster

Ladies and Gentleman, Friends and Neighbors, and those of you with Medical Marijuana Cards from any of the 13 states that have Medical Marijuana laws, “Your medical marijuana card is only for use in the state from which it was issued”.  [Not entirely.  Montana, Michigan, and Rhode Island will recognize the medical marijuana cards from all twelve states that issue them.  Maine doesn't issue cards, or actually have a "program".  Still, these facts in no way affect the context of this post. -- "R"R]

Police in Norfolk, Virginia have arrested a member of Snoop Dogg’s entourage for drug possession after receiving a tip about a suspicious package that arrived in the mail from Canada to the Norfolk Plaza Hotel, where the rapper and his crew were staying.

“Our Norfolk law enforcement sources tell us cops monitored the package that was addressed to a member of Snoop’s entourage … then swooped in and arrested the dude for misdemeanor marijuana possession,” TMZ noted.

“That’s when Mr. Dogg showed up in the lobby and told cops the weed was for him, and then flashed his medical marijuana card.”

At press time, police were continuing to investigate the matter.

I used to live in Virginia and I will say from experience, Snoop needs a really good attorney.
