Download the NORML Daily Audio Stash for 2008-06-03

Yesterday I spoke with Dale Geiringer of California NORML and he remarked how the Mendocino County Measure B was based on language just declared unconstitutional by the California Court of Appeals.  Today I talk with Omar Figueroa, a cannabis rights attorney in California, for more discussion of the People v. Kelly decision that declared Senate Bill 420’s limits on medical marijuana possession to be unconstitutional, since the Assembly cannot amend a citizen initiative like Prop 215.

We’ve got a return to the Stash for our musical guest, The Dirtball.  I’ve really been digging on his groove ever since I played “Mushroom Cloud” on the Stash last month, so this month I bring you “Just a Friend”, which also features some really tight female vocals.

Then we look at industrial hemp in South Dakota and how they’re using hempcrete - a concrete and hemp blend - to provide energy efficient and environmentally-friendlier building materials.  Bob Newland from South Dakota NORML joins us.

So sit back with your Gandalf and your favorite strain and enjoy your NORML Daily Audio Stash.

Lakota Hempcrete Project

Hemphasis.net ~ Lakota Hempcrete Project
In December, 2007, Alex and Debra White Plume’s house burned down. Alex is the most-celebrated hemp farmer in the world.

Alex and Debra have built a temporary house, using material from the White Plume Community Center that was only built a few years ago. The Community Center is a model wind-and-solar energy installation. The wind turbine and solar panels were installed by Matt Rankin’s High Plains Wind & Solar.

Hemphasis and the White Plume clan collaborated with American Limetec of Chicago to rebuild the Community Center with a model hempcrete installation.

Hempcrete is the mixture of hemp and concrete that reduces the toxic pollution created by regular concrete, provides a strong and durable building product, resists pests and mold, and provides superior insulation.  Check out the Hemphasis website edited by Bob Newland, the founder of South Dakota NORML.  Then listen in as I interview Bob on today’s Stash about the wonders of hempcrete.

Global Marijuana March - May 3, 2008

Monday, May 5th, 2008

Just catching up on some of the reports from the March this weekend:

Close to 500 protesters took to the streets [of Calgary, Alberta, Canada] Saturday in favour of marijuana’s medicinal use and making it more accessible to those suffering debilitating pain.

Amid the incense aromas and reggae beats, several hundred Austinites rallied at the Capitol on Saturday for the legalization of marijuana for personal and medical use.

Rolling out at high noon May 3, the Ninth Annual Million Marijuana March smoked through downtown Portland as part of Oregon NORML’s protest of pot prohibition and to support the use of medicinal marijuana through Oregon’s sometimes controversial Medical Marijuana Act.

“These guys are easy compared to the anarchists,” said Sgt. Voepel of the Portland Police Department, “they’re on time, and they’re orderly.”

According to the Sarge, the only rabble rousers during the march were two drunkards who were pestering people but were unconnected to the peaceful pro-pot gatherers. No pot smokers were spotted.
