Much of Miller’s music offers lessons in overcoming difficulties in life — be sure to check out memorable tracks like Inner Circle’s “Tenement Yard” and his own “Each One Teach One.” We lost Miller in 1980 in a tragic car crash. His story ended much too soon, but thank Jah, we have the music, which you can find on iTunes. Among the offerings, you’ll find marijuana music, of course. Today, enjoy this tasty toker tune that appears on the 2001 retrospective LP Jacob Miller Songbook – Chapter A Day: “Tired Fi Lick Weed In a Bush.”

This week’s Toker Tune comes from Eek-A-Mouse, who’s no stranger to NORML Show Live. The reggae-pop-funk jazz vet has been featured here in the past — and probably will be again in the future: What can I say – his music rocks.

Our featured artist is named Humble, and this young man has reason to feel mighty proud. He is an independent artist who has found acclaim in- and outside of the mainstream. In 2007, he scored a Global Marijuana Music Award. Two years later, he won a Juno — Canada’s Grammy — for reggae recording of the year and was named Artist of the year at the Reggae Music Achievement Awards.

We have a great track from a veteran Tex-Mex outfit: Los Rieleros del Norte. The band is known for making traditional north-of-the-border Mexican music called conjunto. The genre mixes German polka cadences with Mexican ranchero sounds. Los Rieleros were founded in 1979 and recorded their first LP a year later. Since then, they have scored a number of hits including “amor Prohibido,” “Copa Sin Vino,” and “Te Quiero Mucho” and have won fans in Mexico and the US.

His crystalline voice and funky, easygoing beats earned Cas a second-place finish on America’s Got Talent, which in turn netted him a measure of fame and a following. But the contest also locked the Texan singer/songwriter/guitarist into a major label deal that didn’t feel right. So, not wanting to be turned into a manufactured product, he struck out on his own. The superb result: Connection, a collection of songs basking in the philosophical and musical maturity that comes from staying true to his artistic vision.

In 1980, Errol formed the band Messenjah. They recorded two albums and toured extensively for 6 years traveling across Canada and the U.S.A. When Messenjah disbanded in 1986, lead singer and bass player Errol Blackwood started a solo career. For his many scheduled club and concert performances throughout Canada and the US, he brought together several talented musicians in 1988 to create the band Injah, bringing a new sound to the Canadian reggae music scene.
