Music: Total Devastation – “Hemp Rally”

Tuesday, October 28th, 2008 at 8:38 pm | By: Radical Russ

I’m bringing back my fave group from the Bay Area, Total Devastation.  I got to introduce them at the Oasis Club in Oakland for the NORML Extravaganza and I’ve been grooving on their tunes ever since.

This track is called “Hemp Rally” and reminds me of this past summer as I appeared at the Eugene, Portland, and Seattle Hempfests.  I hope to make it out to even more of them next year.

No download on this one, though.  You’ll have to check out their Myspace page.

Music: Total Devastation – “Where’s the Bomb At?”

Friday, October 24th, 2008 at 3:18 pm | By: Radical Russ

Ah, yeah, today your Musical Break comes straight from the “Radical” Russ files off a CD given to me by my new homies, Total Devastation, representin’ the Bay Area – San Francisco – Oakland!

Ahem.  Uh, sorry about that.  I’m just reliving this photo from a recent gig of theirs where I was honored to introduce this soulful hip-hop group.  I’m standing backstage with Ponyboy and Fuzzy from Los Marijuanos when Pony says, “Dawg, you gotta get up there and introduce us like I wanted you to do in Seattle!”  We had talked about me doing some Michael Buffer knock-off boxing-style introduction in my over-the-top monster-trucks Sunday! Sunday! Sunday! radio voice, so I said, “sure.”

Then he says, “Oh, yeah, and you gotta introduce these guys Total Devastation, they’re great, we been playin’ with them a lot,” and so on.  I’m losing track of what he’s saying because it’s loud and I stood next to drummers for most my adult life.  Plus there are lots of girls running around and I had just visited the hash bar and copious amounts of wine were involved as well.  Now I’m freaking out – am I going to mess up the name?  Total Devastation.  Total Devastation…

I’m handed a mic and I believe I got out a decent introduction.  Couldn’t tell you what I said.  But the group was tight.  I really enjoyed the set, except for the whole sound system cutting out in the middle because of fuses breaking.  They were pros, though, and they don’t show what you don’t know and ya don’t stop.

Actually, I’d better.  These guys are much better.  This track is called “Where’s the Bomb At?” and you can tell by the photo exactly where the bomb is at – a full quarter-pound bomber.  I was impressed by the Oregon NORML Cubit, but I had to take my hemp hat off to the Quarter Pounder.  Check out Total Devastation at their Myspace page for more information and music.

P.S.  I learned my lesson and typed my Los Marijuanos intro into my Blackberry:

Ladies and Gentlemen – It’s NORML CON 2008!

In this corner are you, the hundreds of activists who are fighting for an end to adult marijuana prohibition!

And in this corner, the three-time High Times Cannabis Cup performers, five-time Seattle Hempfest performers, four-time Portland Hempstalk performers, the undefeated reigning and defending tag team heavyweight hip-hop hemp champions of the world…

    Fuzzy and Ponyboy…

    Esta es le mejor mota…

    Los Marijuanos!!!

That’s what I wrote down, anyway.  Couldn’t tell you if I actually said it that way.
