Friday on Dateline: Rachel Morningstar Hoffman

Wednesday, January 21st, 2009 at 4:20 pm | By: Radical Russ

UPDATE: Based on reporting from a Stasher in the Comments, it seems the Rachel Morningstar Hoffman story will air on Dateline NBC this Friday, Jan 23, at 10pm ET.  Unless, of course, a plane lands in a river. — “R”R

Don’t miss tonight’s Dateline NBC (10pm ET/PT, 9pm CT/MT) for their full hour of coverage of the case of Rachel Morningstar Hoffman.  She was a 23-year-old FSU grad who was killed during a botched drug sting last May.  She had to go on an undercover buy/bust operation as part of her plea deal for minor possession of cannabis.  The cops lost track of her, and her body was found a few days later.

Or not.  Looks like we get one-hour of thrilling coverage of the airplane that landed in the Hudson River.  You know, the story where NOBODY died?  The story that directly impacts perhaps a couple hundred of people?  It’s much more important to cover a story about a 1-in-11 million risk faced by the 11% of the population that travels by air.  One dead Florida girl who sold pot and was murdered due to police negligence in a drug sting with two known violent felons?  We’ll get to that when there’s nothing more important going on.

You can tell Dateline NBC what you think about the programming change at Dateline@NBCUNI.com.

this was gross neglgence of the degree, that someone, within the police dept is totally responsible [morally and legally]. undercover is a very dangerous situation for even the best trained and the most experience. i agree with all the traing, praise and thankfullness for the police and all public protectors, but can”t we have a good course of “common sense”, with a mandatory passing grade…………………….

It sickens me to see that an accident caused by what i hear may be a “bird strike” and most likely couldn’t have been avoided and without loss of a single life holds more media value than a case of government employees directly responsible for the death of a person that did nothing but smoke a little pot.
YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELVES NBC !

“Tune into NBC tonight at 10 p.m. ET, 9 p.m. CT for a minute-by-minute look at the miraculous landing of US Airways Flight 1549″
