Ken Unger - the gov't would rather make him a morphine addict than use cannabis. Support the troops... unless they smoke pot.
This story was brought to my attention by Norml Show Live chat room member “trixterphillips” . This is taking it too far. This man that was hurt while serving his country, is now being forced to suffer from those injuries, and may be put in jail by that same country for trying to find some relief from those injuries and now he is ready to challenge the lack of a medical use defense in a Missouri State Court.
examiner.com Ken Unger is a 100% disabled U.S. Navy veteran deemed unemployable by the St. Louis VA. He was hit in the head with a 50 ton crane hook while serving in Grenada in 1983. He now suffers from two herniated disks in his back, muscle spasms, weakness, pain and numbness in the legs. He has six coronary stents holding the arteries in his heart open and an artery bypass in his right leg. His injuries have rendered him weak, and he now suffers from depression as well as diabetes.
Unger was prescribed morphine, which resulted in 3 heart attacks. He now uses marijuana, which has no detrimental side effect for him.

O’Fallon police obtained a warrant to search his home on the suspicion he was growing and selling marijuana–the distribution charge had no evidence other than officer Justin Hill’s own speculation. In application for the warrant, he stated: “Furthermore your affiant knows that persons who cultivate marijuana will distribute marijuana they produce for others for profit.”
Green Aid: The Medical Marijuana Legal Defense and Education Fund has secured two top drug lawyers, St. Louis based Joseph P. Welch and Columbia based Missouri NORML/ACLU lawyer Dan Viets to defend Unger in court. Additionally, a national campaign has been launched in support of Unger. Thousands of calls and emails are expected to flood Prosecutor Jack Banas’s office urging him to drop the charges. Statewide groups are expected to be in and around the courthouse in protest on March 9, 2011 when Unger is arraigned.

I’m 57 and I have not work from Sep 2010 and I have had neck, knee, shoulder surgery. I have three more surgeries coming and I take Oxycodone and I hate it, but I have to take it for the pain. Please keep me inform of the out come. I have never had marijuana but I would try something that God made in place of what man made pills.

I AM ON 5 MEDICATIONS AND ALL HAVE SIDE EFFECTS, AND THATS OK BECAUSE ITS MADE IN A LAB BY MAN AND REGULATED THROUGH DOCTORS AND INSURANCE COMPANIES. I knew Ken from the online scene. He was nothing more than a sick man trying to medicate himself. He is no drug dealer. He is a very nice man. I wish him all the luck with this.
