Undermining Michigan’s Voter Approved Medical Marijuana Act

Just in from Michigan, it appears as though prohibitionists are trying to undermine the new voter approved medical marijuana act!

The drug warriors are at it again. They are trying to undermine the will of the voters and put medical marijuana patients in prison with new legislation.
Sen. Kuipers, who opposes medical marijuana, recently introduced legislation to develop unnecessary and unjust regulations on medical marijuana. Senate Bills 616-618 have been sent to the Senate Judiciary Committee for consideration.
Some of the bills’ measures would include: Restricting a patient’s ability to obtain the drug, require the herb to be purchased only through a pharmacist with a prescription from a doctor, create sentencing guidelines of up to two years in prison for patients who violate the proposed legislation.
The medical marijuana act was meant to protect critically ill patients from unjust and immoral prosecutions. Our legislators, police officers and prosecutors who opposed the new law are unwilling to accept the new law and are unwilling to respect the will of the voters on this issue. The police continue to arrest patients, and prosecutors are unwilling to stop prosecuting patients.
If you are a medical marijuana patient, or have a loved one who is a medical marijuana patient, you need to contact your state legislators and tell them that this is unacceptable and ask them to vote against this type of unjust and insensitive legislation.
Voters who voted in favor of Proposal 1, the critically ill need your help again. Please help us protect our medical marijuana patients again by calling your state legislators now.
If you value your vote, if you value your medicine, and if you value your freedom, then you’ll contact your state legislators immediately and let them know how you feel!

Michigan shuts 8 prisons to save $120M
Struggling state looks to stem budget bleeding by closing 3 prisons and 5 prison camps. Michigan is facing a $1.4 billion budget deficit for fiscal 2010.
“Sets a $25,000 fine for any registered medical marijuana patient who obtains medical marijuana from a source other than a pharmacy despite the fact pharmacies will not be able to dispense the medicine.” WTF !!!!!!!!!!!
