After a horrible bout of withdrawal from the evil emotional effects of a bad reaction to Chantix landed me in the psych ward, and also having before that weaned off of Lyrica for back pain and Luvox for depression, the doctors gave me Ativan, which was helping me maintain…and then GEODON, an antipsychotic. Within three doses of the Geodon, I had DRASTIC Parkinsonian symptoms. I could barely walk, was hunched over and unable to straigten my body and my face was tight with a scary frozen “smile”-though I was hardy happy and very scared. I felt bad after the first dose but since the psychiatrist had told me to take it as directed and give it a chance, I did. They had to take me to the ER for an antidote!
Being on probation and compliant, I sure do miss my PREFERRED ANTIDEPRESSANT! MaryJane never treated me that way!

That is the way I feel too.

*extreme* sunburn after less than 1 minute in mild sun after taking an antibiotic. Maybe that lead to my melanoma as well??

Took a pill for my back a few weeks ago that said it “might cause bleeding of the brain”. Thankfully, for me, it didn’t.

The absolute worst pharmaceutical was when I was prescribed Thorazine in the late 60′s for anxiety and paranoid delusions…yah, like you should’nt feel that your being persecuted when your a hippie in the 1960′s. My mind and body felt like disembodied playdoh and I could’nt string together two coherent words. I dropped that shit after my first dosage and turned to cannabis for my anxiety and the only paranoia I have is the DEA imposed ones used against all us cannabis lovers. :pot:

Pharm drugs hurt my stomach no matter what they are and are too potent. Cannabis helps my stomach. I don’t know what I have but its stomach problem and I could never eat in the AM before I started smoking weed. I would always wait till after school to eat because it made me nauseous.

i got dysphagia from prilosec, but that wasn’t the worst. I was diagnosed with depression/anxiety in 1987 after a suicide attempt.
I tried all of the pharmaceutical medications for depression and none worked for me. Some made me sick to my stomach, others made me severely agitated as to where I felt like injuring myself and others. In 1989 a buddy of mine was smoking a joint after work and asked me if I wanted to try it. I smoked it with him and felt immediately calm, relaxed, and happy.
I discussed it with my doctor and got the whole “drugs are bad, mmmkay” speech. I was pressured into trying new depression/anxiety meds and those didn’t work either. So i decided that my doctor was clueless and/or received some sort of kickback from the pharmaceutical industry. Now, twenty years later, my depression and anxiety is virtually non-existant, with no side effects, because of a glorious plant :pot:

My worst side effects is an ongoing one….I am permanently on bi-polar prescription meds with potentially fatal withdrawal if I should stop. Fabulous, just friggin fabulous.
Had an upclose, personal first hand event that proved that to me when I was jailed for possession of 4oz and denied my bi-polar prescription med med. Missed 3 doses and was in anaphalctic shock when released. This is going to be the death of me.

I had a gout attack in my foot (chronic painful issue I have) and saw a different doctor at my clinic. He prescribed Colchicine, an old remedy used for centuries to cure inflammation like gout. The pharmacy listed the dosages incorrectly stating to “take one pill every five minutes until I vomit or have the shits” (sounds fun but better than gout pain any day). It should have read “one pill every hour”. I even laughed at the gent telling me how to take it saying “you got to be kidding me” and he said very seriously “yes, take exactly as it says on the bottle”. Well, after puking my guts out for 12 hours and not being able to move my wife checked it out on the internet and called poison control and they said I should be dead and to get me to a hospital. Three days later I was okay but I almost bit the big one

Tendonitis in ALL of my joints form Levaquin. Severe pain lasting for months. I am lucky though, some people lost their achilies tendons and had other ruptures, mine just flared up and I couldn’t walk or move well. This was all verified by inflammation blood tests, etc. Had I not sought help when it started, I easily could have ruptured every major tendon in my body. I was only 25!!!!!!! This was about 3 1/2 years ago at this point and I still get minor flare ups once n a while.

Also I had no health insurance at the time(still don’t) and had to pay for everything, including the $100 plus medication out of pocket.

I was induced into a coma after being hit while serving in Iraq. Following that, oxy-whatever almost killed me. Over a period of 3 years of digesting Oxy, Darvon, Demeral, Vicodein and Hydrocodone, I had lost 40 lbs and was near death. I couldn’t function, so they retired me and gave me disability. After discovering MMJ, I dropped everything else and can amazingly function quite well. I no longer even have regular pills in the house. Gosh, I really hope I don’t get arrested for possession, I’ll end up in jail and I’ll die within a week.

I think he is telling the truth about those two brain cells of his. Luckily he used cannabis or he may have had only one brain cell left.

    OK lets see…..
nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, upset stomach, headache, joint pain, dizziness, uncontrollable shaking, high blood pressure, bleeding gums, constipation, anal bleeding, stomach ulcer, diminished breathing, palpitating heart, sweats, chills, frequent urination, blurred vision, auditory hallucination, lack of appetite,
Oh ya..and disillusionment with modern western medicine
I have been surviving a spinal cord injury for over 12 yrs and the only ‘meds’ I have left that i can take is pot and liqueur all others are physically sickening to me.

I took a Dilaudid (hydromorphone) once and couldn’t wait for the ride to get over…..it was like being on the brink of death.

The worst side effect I experienced from a prescribed pharmaceutical was strong suicidal urges from anti-depressants and anti-anxiety meds, Lexapro and Risperdal. How is suicidal urges an acceptable side effect of anti-depressants?! Then I turned into a complete emotionless zombie. It also gave me violent and disturbing nightmares every night.

  19. Carpe Cannabis

I’ve never really had any bad side effects from something prescribed to me. Although, I dry heaved pretty bad after taking a 10mg codine and then chewing half of a 10mg.

Under Good ole Texas law, Im not allowed a choice of cannabis. I have had Crohn’s disease for well over 10 years. After having spent a number of them on and off prescription pain medications I would have to say the worst of it is coming off of an extended treatment of high dosages of narcotic pain meds. Breaking the cycle of dependency becomes more difficult each time, and puts my family and myself under unneeded stress. Not to mention the long term underlying affects of that level of exposure.

  21. Dr. Luny

I was recently prescribed a liquid antibiotic after having jaw surgery and the taste was so aweful I almost fainted(also weak from surgery and all-liquid diet). I also came close to fainting once while on Vicodin, although there were other factors involved(kneeling makes blood pool in your legs). I have had worse side effects from pharmaceutical drugs before, but they weren’t drugs prescribed to me.

  22. DocMedPot

As a long time chronic pain suffered with RSD I spent a couple years on an evil drug called oxycontin that left me a virtual zombie during that awful time in my life. Cannabis has truly changed and saved my life for the better. Yes, that may only be antecdotal opinion but it has help keep the amount of opiates I have to take daily in lower dosages then I should be for someone with my conditions.

    Peace & Activism,
    Doc :pot:

The worst side effect I experienced from a prescribed pharmaceutical was … a heart attack. I used to have frequent migraines and finally went to a doctor to get help. He prescribed a medication called Imitrex. Four days later while I was racing in a cardboard boat and looking at a first place trophy I had a heart attack. There’s an awful long story that I really don’t want to type, I’m alive now and grateful for that.
The boat by the way, drifted in and got me a 2nd place trophy.
