Who is your favorite stoner? Define “favorite” by any criteria you wish, and “stoner” and “idol”, too, for that matter. Could be who you find to be the funniest stoner comedian. Could be someone you think exemplifies activism. You can come up with as many as you like for as many categories as you like in the comments. Think of it as an opportunity to “give props” to whomever you feel is your “stoner idol”. (And please, for the sake of being able to find hats that fit my already too-big head, leave me out of it. I’m flattered if anyone was thinking that, but I’m nobody but a parrot standing on the shoulders of giants. Uh, giant pirates, yeah that’s it, great law reforming swashbuckling pirates of prohibition plundering! arrrghhh!)
For me it’s Madeline Martinez of Oregon NORML and the NORML Board. Without her, I would not be here today. She taught me that you don’t have to be a lettered-and-degreed person to preach the truth because the truth is simple; that you don’t have to have a lot of money to make a lot of noise in the halls of power, you just need people and perseverance; and that there is nothing shameful about being a cannabis consumer.

Wanda Sykes is hands down the most witty, hilarious stoner comedienne. A close second would be Steven Cobert. They get my 4 star giggle smoke awards!
The late Hunter S. Thompson, Bob Marley and Lenny Bruce. Willie Nelson, Bill Maher, and Tommy Chong.
What ever happened to Montel, he was on track for a few years but has faded into the history of the Medical Marijuana fight?
Bill Maher, every week he points out Prohibition as a major problem and that it causes so many more problems. Today, i think he is the most reliable supporter, he brings awarness into peoples homes weekly on TV. I cant think anyone at this time that is more visible or has a bigger voice on TV about ending prohiobition then Bill.
Write those Emails and letters guys. I have started writing to the cable news networks, demanding a full story about the failed War on Drugs and how so many countrys are decriminalizing/ending prohibition and its working great!
Where are the storys about Portugal, Spain, Italy, Netherlands, even Canada and many many more! Funny we dont here anything about how well its working and how well its turing their drug problems around! Canada is right here and we dont hear or see anything about them. Now Mexico has demanded that we re-think our Marijuana laws, they want full legalization!
Anyhow just a thought!
Author, activist, AIDS patient and entrepreneur Peter McWilliams died for the cause of medicinal marijuana. He was effectively sentenced to death when they wouldn’t let him take the anti-emetic marijuana that allowed him to swallow his AIDS medicine. He choked on his on vomit and died in a bathtub.
Use google and do a little research on this brave man. He had remarkable life, long before the state put him to death. He produced much in the form of fascinating and enlightening books before he was killed.
Few have both suffered and contributed as much as Peter. Some gave all.
greg marijuaman williams
Mason Tvert from SAFER CHOICE
have you seen him on the news? He rocks!
I’d say Bill Maher is doing a fine job of getting the word out. It seems every week on his program he mentions something about legalizing marijuana.
Hunter S. Tompson for his role in norml and just because he was brilliant
Carl Sagan,
because he is the complete opposite of the stoner stereotype.
Weird, No one has mentioned the one everyone should have thought of Mr. Hunter S. Thompson
Governor Raymond P. Shafer.
Was most likely at least somewhat supportive of prohibition when commissioned to do a study on cannabis. Allowed the evidence to change his position and defied President Nixon in recommending an end to prohibition.
A perfect example of what can happen when a reasonable person is confronted with facts and does what is honorable despite any ideology.
Bill Maher and Jimmy Kimmel are doing a fine job making the good herb mainstream. But my all-time favorite weed spokesman is Dave Chapelle —hilarious stoner, but haven’t seen much of him lately…maybe he’ll come back when his favorite drug is legal?
My favorite stoner would have to be a toss up between Brad Nowell and M
itch Hedberg.
I like this question and some dern good troopers mentioned. Im gonna give a shout out to Dimebag Darrell may his soul RIP! First of all the dudes name was DIMEBAG and thats props right there. Dimebag was always a head and rocked with the best of them as he was guitarist for the Mighty Pantera. Back in the early ninties Pantera stage backdrop was a big pot leaf. They sold TS with it on it and back then when you had the PMRC lead by Tipper Gore, that was something. Did I mention he Freaking rocked!!!
RIP Dimebag
Jack Herer
Bob Marley
Freewheelin’Franklin
and an honorable mention to Jeff Spicoli
Ethan Nadelmann, he knows the issues inside and out, he is acutely aware of why we are right and they are wrong, not only is he not afraid to say it but he feels a responsibility to, great guy, so smart, I hope when people hear me talk about legalization they hear what I hear when I listen to Ethan
…. but the #1 is Bob Marley of course :)
Every patient who has died without access to medical marijuana.
Imma have to stick with my friend Tommy Chong. He went down in history as a victim of Freedom Robing American B.S.!!!
Take a stand and Demand your Government uphold your Constitution. What is wrong with all of you people, stop reading, NO STOP reading until you email, mail, or call your rep, or every rep on a committee in your state reviewing a marijuana law reform bill.
If you dont stand up for your rights no one will! Speak, Loudly! Let your voice help turn the tide.
I’ll start things off.
Willie Nelson comes to mind.
A true bud patriot if there was one.
Tommy Chong a very close second.
