Thank you for your message regarding Senate Bill 5615, regarding decimalization of marijuana possession. I appreciate you taking the time to write and welcome your input.
You make good points and recognize the potential benefits to easing some of the restricts cannabis. I looked into the status of this bill for you and have actually learned that it will not be moving forward at this time. The Legislature has several self-imposed “cut-off” dates in order to keep the process moving. Bills that aren’t at a certain point in the legislative process when one of these “cut-offs” occurs do not move forward and are what we call “dead”. The first cut-off date is for bills to pass out of a policy committee. Unfortunately, Senate Bill 5615 did not meet this cut-off. I don’t want this to discourage you, hearing your thoughts on legislation helps me represent you here in Olympia, regardless of the status of a bill. I also want to assure you that I will keep your thoughts in mind should this legislation be re-introduced next year.

I believe Rep.Deb Wallace is WRONG about this bill. At least, about What cut off this bill fail to pass.
“The first cut-off date is for bills to pass out of a policy committee. Unfortunately, Senate Bill 5615 did not meet this cut-off.”
SB 5615 did pass out of the policy committee.
As a mater of fact the vote on this bill in the Senate Judiciary Committee on Feb 18th.

This bill failed to pass out of the Senate Rules Committee, they decide weather or not and when the full WA Senate will consider the bill.
I believe she confused SB 5615 in the Senate with HB 1177 which didn’t even get a Committee Hearing!
This is typical for our unqualified or inept State Reps.
“Screw the decimalization of marijuana! What’s wrong with eighths, quarters, halfs? Why does everything have to be on the decimal system? We should not decimalize marijuana!”
Miss Litella, that’s a typo. The representative meant to say “decriminalization”. Decriminalization of marijuana, you know, making it a fine only.
“Is this Cheddar Cheese?”
No, this is Chevy, Chevy Chase. The story was about “decriminalization”, Miss Litella.
“Oh! Never mind.”
