(Washington House Bill 2401) It is the intent of the legislature to:
(1) Legalize marijuana and its derivatives;
(2) Remove all existing civil and criminal penalties for adults twenty-one years of age or older who cultivate, possess, transport, sell, or use marijuana, without impacting existing laws proscribing dangerous activities while under the influence of marijuana, or certain conduct that exposes younger persons to marijuana;
(3) Raise funds and discourage substance abuse by the imposition of a tax on the legal sale of marijuana, the proceeds of which will support drug education and awareness; and
(4) Impose a set of rules and laws concerning marijuana comparable to those imposed on alcohol.
It seems like the whole West Coast is in a race to see who will legalize marijuana first!

I am the producer of The NORML Network, the host of the NORML SHOW LIVE and The NORML Stash Blog, and NORML's Outreach Coordinator. I'm married, live in Portland, Oregon, and I am a registered medical marijuana caregiver in this state. I've worked days as an IT geek and nights as a professional musician. Previously, I have been the host of my own political talk radio show on satellite radio. I've been the High Times "Freedom Fighter of the Month" and I travel across the country to educate people on marijuana reform. I've dedicated my life to bringing an end to adult marijuana prohibition and re-legalizing cannabis hemp, and I'm honored to be chosen by NORML to give voice to the Marijuana Nation and to speak for those who can't speak up.

I’ve been telling people 4 quite a while now, ‘when the first state legalizes(most likely cali) and the other states see the billions that will be generated by the reintroduction of the hemp industries will change their anti-marijuana attitudes quickly. Every economically troubled state(most) that can host a crop(again, most) will!!
Let’s all hear it 4 the green economy!!

Just remember that Napoleon made marijuana because it made his troops “unwilling to fight”. Not to mention that on the federal level it will still be illegal. And as we all know the federal government is SSSLLLLOOOWWWW when it comes to ammending/changing laws. So then it comes down to state vs. federal. We fought a war over this once before.
especially when they see how much tax revenue can be created
I agree 100% $200 dollars for people who are injured and need a good medicine. It just doesn’t make sense. The whole deal is supposed to help patients. Also access to medicine in WA is very difficult to obtain, the black market seems to be the easiest way to go in some parts of the state. Patients need good naturally grown meds, not underground junk.
In Washington the question used to be”Did you hear that we can get permission to grow and consume legally?” Now the common question is,” do you have your recommendation yet?”
The next logical step would be complete legalization so we can put these so-called clinics in historys’ dumpster where they belong.
Two hundred bucks a year…MY ASS.
God, I hope it’s WA!!! The only reason why is because I live there, but regardless, it;s about time. The legalization of marijuana is long over dur. Too many people are losing they friends, families, freedoms, and even lives over the prohibition of marijuana, and the lost cause know as the war on drugs. You know it time for them to give up when the police even know they’re failures.

I can’t wait for this I wish Washington would be # 1 but heh im not complaining about anything, I can’t wait for it to be legal in CA because most other states will follow especially once they see all the good that can acturally come of it. Hopefully doctors will start pushin for that in other states not legalized but all this is getting exiting!

Yeah, a world-wide ending of cannabis prohibition, and a new century of regulated sales and distribution. Treat is same as beer, but no advertising and aggressive marketing.
i wish they would just legalize marijuana throughout the world!
I second the Colorado motion.
i wonder if vegas has odds on this race?
come on 2!
Colorado will be first…..
FANTASTIC news! now it’s a battle of “I wanna be first! >:0 ”
the windfall is faster than predicted, california, orgeon, now Washington STATE.
now the question is no longer “will it be legal” but is now “who is making it legal first?”
