It's such a shame that Marijuana Nation was filmed documentary style. The very style tends to lend credibility when it's not due.

Lisa Ling assumes the posture of a completely innocent, wide-eyed person in awe at every turn. A true documentary needs to be hosted by someone who knows a bit more about the subject they're documenting.

No, Lisa, marijuana isn't "totally legal in the Netherlands".

And Marc Emery...poor Marc. He has done so much good for the pro-cannabis movement, but seems like every time he appears in an interview, his eyes make Jim Bruer's look totally sober, and just like so many folks who have legal medical access, or the resources to protect themselves from arrest, he's more than happy to get stoned to the bone in front of cameras.

I'm not saying it's wrong to get buzzed, but just like Allen St. Pierre and Russ Belville typically only appear in shirts and ties, and always articulate in an alert and sober fashion (even if they're not), Marc should have learned long ago that appearing to be slammed just gets folks looking at your demeanor and not listening to your words, no matter how sensible they are.

And to those who might suggest Marc has no control over his appearance, take a look at his recent interviews on his website. Sure he has bags under his eyes, but they look natural, and not substance induced.

I don't want to see medical patients using a bong, pipe, joint, or even a vaporizer. Medication isn't a sideshow.

If the subject was diabetes, do you think they'd be showing a diabetic shooting insulin?

If any one knows how I can get in touch with the doctor from Hebrew University ( Dr. Raphael Muchulem (sp))I would appreciate it. I am also a bone marrow transplant patient and I have graft vs. host disease with the same symptoms as the young man in the article.
I am very interested in the outcome and if it is possible for me to start on the progrm that has helped this patient, which was medical marijuana.

PROPERTY OWNERS RAYMOND E. CURTIS/JUDY F. CURTIS
ILLEGAL INCURSION #s 1-3
As a war veteran and a diligent American-born citizen of this country, I feel that my civil rights have been infringed upon. This is the third time these task force police have committed this unnecessary incursion an intended to do whatever it took to relieve medical treatment upon not only me but my sick wife as well. There was also a great deal of Harassment bestowed upon my three grandchildren(Alan D. Curtis, Amber L. Curtis, and Anthony L. Curtis) pertaining to the CPS personal and officers arriving at their schools without first notifying Dale or I first .My care-giver and also my son, Dale A. Curtis who spent 20 days in jail, was not present at the start of the incursions and was looking for a Christmas tree for the family. When at around 2:00pm I heard at loud knock on the door and I knew from the intensity that it was the task force POLICE. When I opened the door and asked why they were here the sheriff stated that it was a standard Truancy Inspection and the cop said that they had a warrant continuation procedure to fill. Before he asked me if he could come in, he abruptly barged his way past me in a rude manner and his accomplices followed. 5 police made up this task force. My wife, Judy F. Curtis, who worked 25 years as a nurse, was not shy in inveighing her “opinions” in her natural acrimonious tone of voice. Being a breast-Cancer patient/Heart patient/stoke patient and having 3 Heart Attacks in the past, she found it very in-criminalizing for these Police to take her medical Marijuana that she uses on her joints(Othstioperosis) . I have also had my share of Heart Attacks and 5 back surgeries in the past all devoted to my long 40-year career as a Master Union Carpenter. Not to mention my devotion to this country by serving in the military during the Korean War.

ALAN D. CURTIS
12/9/08
INCURSIONS #1-3

The start of these unnecessary and diabolical incursions started on 5-29-08 at about 1100 hours while I was in school. The second raid was carried out on 6-10-08 and the third incursion was filled on 12-09-08. A few weeks after the first incursion, officers showed up with a Child Protective Services personal on behalf of an apocryphal prediction that we were being abused and in danger of an explosion do to a PROPANE-RAN TRAILER that my dad is living in . As in we I mean my 2 younger siblings: brother(Anthony L. Curtis 14) and my sister(Amber L. Curtis 14) and I. These Task Force POLICE have persistently continued to circumscribe and infringe upon the rights of, not only my family, but to many other Medical Marijuana Patients in Siskiyou County that depend on their medication to survive. Their myopic outlook on Medical Marijuana Patients “abusing” their Legal growing privileges has sent my Grandparents(Raymond E. Curtis and Judy F. Curtis) to the hospital twice due to stress and a Lack Of Their Daily Medication which the cops keep voraciously seizing from them. Now they have crossed our civil rights line and have taken my Father(Dale A. Curtis care-giver) to jail and held him for 20days on a count of 7 FALSE FELONY CHARGES.

I agree with you on that Chris. I love Marc Emery, but why not split the time with a few other people and maybe less Drug Warriors. We have heard everything they have said a million times before. But, for the uninitiated this was a good program from a reputable and very well respected member of the Science/World Information community.

There were a few times where you thought she was going to go into something with some serious substance and talk about stuff that no one has really put to film yet, at least on a Nat Geo type level, and then it switched to another piece of info and the same 'ol "Its not your fathers pot" stuck the whole way.

The thing that really ticked me off was the "its not your grandpa's pot." She failed to mention that the marinol is 100% thc. Or she could have simply made the comparison of alcohol. Bud light 3% alcohol, Bacardi 151 75% alcohol.

And it seems like they fingered the marijuana growers for hurting the environment. Would not have take 2 secs to say "but that is due to prohibition itself."

Hops farmers are not growing on public land, and they are paying taxes. If they are really concerned about the environment, go to Wva and see a strip mine.

hell i could ramble on all day. The more i think about it the worse job i think she did. Wouldnt be surprised though if her story initially sounded better but got shredded by editors and producers with special intrests. Seems like she was going in the right direction, there is just soooo much she could have did better.
