I am happy to announce the official certification of three new NORML Chapters in the United States. When I first started this job as Outreach Coordinator, I most wanted to establish chapters in my home territory, the Intermountain West. This weekend I travel to Idaho to try to form a new Boise NORML chapter.
But the jewel I’ve been coveting the most is Salt Lake City. That goal came true today as I finally received the paperwork from this already hit-the-ground-running chapter in Utah. We now have a functioning chapter in the Beehive State!*
Then I was going through old paperwork that had been forwarded to me from the Washington DC office and found the application materials for two other chapters, Pikes Peak NORML in Colorado Springs and Cal State Univ. Monterey Bay in Marina, California. A quick phone call to both groups confirmed that they are still active so I have added them to the rolls at the national office as well.
Congratulations to founding directors Christiaan Kooring, Robert Mead, and Eden Gonzalez for doing the legwork and having the patience to form SLC NORML, Pikes Peak NORML, and CSUMB NORML.
*OK, so back in the day, there was an NBA team called the New Orleans Jazz. They up and moved to Utah but kept the name “Jazz”. Meanwhile, a team formed in Charlotte called the Hornets. They up and moved to New Orleans but kept the name “Hornets”. So, the team in the Beehive State is called “Jazz” and the team in the birthplace of jazz is called “Hornets”. Could someone get them to just swap names, please?

Please email me at stash@norml.org if you have complaints. Whining on the comments section won’t help.
Gee – and if the Salt Lake City NORML group can actually get their shit together and treat members like people and not like pieces of shit, maybe, just maybe, NORML might succeed in Utah. However, appears doubtful as hell at this time with the current local leadership.
