The Milwaukee Area NORML is up and running, and we are "Recruiting" new members. After nearly 4 decades, Milwaukee finally has an honest to goodness NORML Chapter. Exciting things are already happening. The Shepherd Express, our local alternative weekly newspaper is going to do a story on us and The Jackie Rickert Medical Marijuana Act.

Membership is free, but donations are more than welcome, encouraged. For further information, or to become a member, send an email to: milwaukee@norml.net

Rock On Milwaukee Area NORML!!!

Sorry for the above, I can't seem to create paragraph breaks on this PC. The above referenced site address in my post is reguarding today's story about Mexico's two past Presidents,Brazil and Colombia's past Presidents and Mexico's current President announcing they are now in favor of legalizing Marijuana to aleviate the current corruption and slaughter of many reguarding drug trafficing. BTW-I read your page sponsors book "Marijuana Revisited" in 1970. I had found it to be very interesting as a 17 year old. I was quite amazed to see any mention of it this many years later. Another amusing footnote: I read it while I was in jail for .....possession of marijuana-LOL!

RE:CNN.com/World http://www.cnn.com/2009/CRIME/05/13/tennessee.exonerated/index.html?eref=rss_topstories dated today-13May2009---I Wholeheartedly agree it’s WELL past time. The ony ones benefiting from the current illegality of Marijuana are drug dealers, cartels, and corrupt government establishments. For many years now I have believed it’s illegality stems not from our leaders desire to contain it’s usage, but so that ‘the few’ and ‘the connected’ in conjunction with politicians can maximize profits from its sale and distribution. Keeping it illegal certainly limits the competition and the raises the prices astronomically. It’s been a gold mine for some. If marijuana is legalized it will end the corruption factor involving law enforcement and government officials. Look for those enriched individuals along with the liquor and brewery industry to vehemently object to its legalization using everything from morals, patriotism, christianity, and fear. Hey, kind of like the Bush administration used to get their way for eight years. The drug cartels have really cut their own throats this time with their unending wholesale slaughter of thousands which is now extending well into our own borders and no end in sight. Although they don’t get a public say this issue, look for those that do their bidding for them. True there will be many drawbacks in legalizing it, but compared with the level of violence and corruption that criminality has wrought, legalization will be a breath of fresh air. I can’t help but think we will look back and say,”Why didn’t we do this sooner?” While I seldom if ever "partake" anymore, on the rare occasion I do-it's ridiculous to have to risk arrest and jail or getting robbed just to obtain some for medical side effects. I'm in!
